I'm using starwood points for a 2 night stay at the Sheraton Safari before moving on-site. Has anyone stayed there? What can you tell me about the pools/slide? Has anyone received an upgraded room? I am SPG gold.

Thanks for any info.

Mary

Can't help with the upgrade question (although if you do get up-graded to a suite they are huge!), but the pool area is excellent, with a big 'snake' slide and lots of swimming room! The hotel's other amenities are also very good (or at least they were last year when I was last there) and its location, close to DD, Crossroads and a host of nearby restaurants, is just about ideal (unless you want Universal :teeth: ).

I don't know anything about this hotel. But, I did find a discount for it at one of the Florida Visitor's Bureau websites. It said stay for $49.00 a night Sunday through Thursday, use code CVB 1-800-423-3297. I have no idea if it works just thought someone could use the info.

Ohiomommy,
Could you let me know where you got that info? I would like to check it out.

Maggie

Thanks Simon and Ohio. My stay will be free since I have enough points but that rate sounds terrific. The best rate I've seen is with the SUM promotion.

My son said he wants his first stop at Disney to be Downtown Disney, so I know the location will be great for that. :D We're really not planning on spending more than a few hours a day at the parks this visit so we are looking forward to lounging at the pool. If we change our minds and want to do some commando things, we'll be able to once we are on-site. I am renting a car and also get free parking with our AP's...............so we have lots of options.

We've got a lot going on between now and then, so I know the time will fly by. And, sadly, it also goes so fast when you actually get there.

Hi,

we stayed on points too. When we checked we were upgraded to a mini suite on the first floor. Be sure to request one away from the elevator though. it is very very noisy hearing people all times of the day.

We did not use the pool so I cannot say anything about that though.

A mini suite has a living room and a bedroom with a mini kithinette with fridge, microwave, etc.

Be sure to include your gold card in your reservations before you check in.:)

Thank you Ohiomommy. The website says its available until December something (20th??), but it is not available for my dates. I also typed in lots of other dates and couldn't get it to be available.

The hotel is supposed to call me back because the code didn't show up in their system. I will let you know.

We stayed there one night in July on a Priceline bid and were very happy with the place. We had a standard double room (actually 2 connecting ones) and they were clean and nicely decorated. Kids loved the pool and slide and it was also very clean. Prices for drinks at the pool were HORRIBLE though!

We decided we would even stay there again paying a regular rate (well a special at least!)

It is near Disney however you will definitely need to drive even to Downtown Disney.

After 3 calls to the Sheraton Safari Hotel, I was finally able to get the $49 rate that Ohio Mommy posted. The first 2 times the Reservationist never heard of this special (or even the code). This time the reservationist was able to pull it right up! So I have 4 nights the week of Thanksgiving reserved!

Another bonus is that I still can receive Starwood Preferred Guest points for this stay, unlike a hotwire or priceline stay!

We are driving down, so we will have a car. We are also trying to make this a budget trip since it will be the 3rd trip on this years APs - so this works out great!

Thanks Ohiomommy!

Maggie

I am so glad you got that rate. Makes me feel good helping someone find a good bargain.
Hope your trip is great. We are leaving in 2 days. Getting very antsy right now. Hard to go to work when all you can think about is going to DisneyWorld.

I stayed here and the place was very nice! The rooms were clean and the pool looked fun. I didn't get a chance to try out the slide, though.

I stayed there from 7/20-24th. I really enjoyed my stay. Only problem was parking when returning back from parks at night. One night I had to park clear at the end of the lot in the back of the hotel.....not a very nice walk at 11pm for a female with 3 kids. Rooms were very clean & big. We stayed thru Priceline. Check in went great. Guest Service rep told me if I wanted to upgrade to a mini suite I could for $45 per night...opted not to do that. The pool was great as per my kids....they loved the slide. There was one day that the maid forgot to do our room. They were very apoligetic, offered to do it at 7pm for us. We told them it was ok.....they gave us all clean towels & our little bath goodies (coffee packets too). Considering I got this hotel for only $24 (plus $10 priceline bonus money)....it was a steal!!! Best $24 I ever spent on a hotel!!!!:D
