Sheraton Safari Hotel?

DD Will be very happy............:teeth: I am going to go ahead and book the night. I don't think I will tell her and it can be a surprise!

She loved the idea of a BIG SNAKE Waterslide!!!:p

We stayed here in March 04-- just wanted to add that I too loved this place!! We pricelined 2 rooms here as well. Both for $35/ each per night-- guess I got a real bargain!! I would love to get this hotel again. They never mentioned us using priceline, we had great rooms-- early check-in and late check-out. It was truly wonderful!

Good morning!

Do you need to be a member of the Starwood program to qualify for a late checkout? I'm staying there for one night in Sept. and would like a little later check out, as we are moving to another place with a later check in the next day. I also would like to not be so rushed in the morning. Should I try to joing Starwood for any benefits for this property?

Thanks!

Travelzoo has the Sheraton Safari for $59.00 a night. Sounds like that is a good rate. I'm trying to decide between Sheraton Safari, Country Inn & Suites ($55) and Doubletree Club ($55). I think I can get the Grosevnor for $59 also. Country Inn had a $49 rate for a while but now it's up to $55. I was thinking that if it went back down to $49, I might reserve there. Any suggestions?

Donna

I would go with the Grosvenor only if it's a tower room. You'll be on property and walking distance to Downtown Disney. Other than that, I think I would choose the Sheraton Safari.:)

I appear to be the lone dissenting voice here, but we were there 3 weeks ago and did not have a good experience. We arrived 30 minutes or so before 3PM check in time and none of the 3 rooms we had reserved were ready...long story but we ended up waiting 2 1/2 hours to get into any rooms and had to settle for standard rooms overlooking the busy street when deluxe/rooms and a suite had been reserved. No one seemed to know why rooms weren't ready, nor did they seem to really much care. In fact the front desk manager told us "well 5:30 does not seem to be an unreasonable check in time"

We were not the only people waiting....the line to see the manager stretched 1/2 way across the lobby by 5:15!! People were getting pretty hostile by that time (the lady in front of me had been there since 1PM waiting on a room.

In desperation we take what we can get (standard rooms) with no offer to refund part of rate or Starwood points for any of the rooms. When we got off the elevator the hallway was lined with piles of dirty linens and trash bags and old room service dishes. Standing at the end of the hall were 5 (count em 5) housekeepers, laughing and having cokes and chatting. When we left for dinner over an hour later 3 of the 5 were still there yucking it up with each other (and the lobby was full of people still waiting on rooms!)

It was after 9PM before the hallway was picked up.

The rooms were nicely decorated, but again poor repair seemed to be the word...our sink was completely clogged and another of the rooms had an AC unit that sounded like a monster truck rally every time it kicked on. We called in both problems, but no one ever came to see about either of them. I grabbed the ice bucket and went to get ice and when I opened the lid I found a moldy peach floating in nasty water...gag...it had been there a LONG time.

When I trooped down to the desk to inquire about "the Sheraton Promise" they very grudginly gave me breakfast vouchers for all and said they would "adjust" the room rates and Starwood points for the downgraded rooms....that never happened.

Fortunately we were only there one night and it doesn't seem to be worth a big hassle ...but we left saying "Never again"

A lady I stood by in line (for a good part of the afternoon) told me she had stayed there often for several years, and it had recently been sold to a new franchisee so was under different management...we agreed it wasn't very well managed....at least that night it wasn't.

I received an e-mail from Holiday Inn DTD (formerly Courtyard) that they have a September rate of $49 a night. However, I've read some really bad things about that hotel. I have a real dilemma! Just not sure where to stay at this point. The Fairfield Inn at Marriott Village has a $55 rate but I've also read a bad post about it. The Country Inn & Suites looks nice and it's also $55, as well as the Doubletree Club. We're going to have to make a decision soon, our flight is the 17th of September so it's getting close.

Sheraton Safari's owner, MeriStar Hospitality, was recently bought out by Interstate Hotels and Resorts.

I am sorry to hear of your miserable stay. You would be much better off discussing your problems with them as they are the ones that can do something about it, even now. Contact Jeff.Brinda@ihrco.com

I think that with any hotel, for one reason or another, some guests have a really horrible experience. But if the hotel was completely lacking all the time, they would go out of business because there is too much competition nearby. So - I guess I would gather as many reviews as possible and weigh the pros and cons and go on that.:D
