Planning to stay July 7th for 5 nights on points at one of the Sheratons at Disneyland. Sheraton Park, Sheraton Anaheim or Sheraton Garden Grove. Have never been to Disneyland or the area before. We will be 2 adults and 2 kids, 5 and 8.

What are the pro's and con's with these hotels, convenience to park, pools, food, parking? Which one would you recommend?

Thanks,

Scott

Never stayed at any of them but just some guidelines to help you make the best choice for you.

Not to change your mind but just to advise you so you can avoid coming back here to this forum after your trip and saying, "wow, I had no idea that..." - staying too far away from DLR and depending on personal transportation or ART (local Anaheim bus service) or even hotel shuttles is one of the biggest mistakes that many WDW vets make. Why? Because they are so accustomed to staying at hotels far away from the WDW parks and using buses that they think it is kind of the same at DLR. It is not.

The walking distance hotels at DLR are one of DLR's hugest advantages over WDW and can significantly enhance your trip.

Read more about this here: "HydroGuy's Hotel Rule" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1199862

Another WDW vet posted on this just a few days ago. Here is what he said FWIW:

I was a 4 time WDW veteran (2 of them as a Disboard informed commando) prior to coming to DLR the first time. I empathize with you & the OP.

...

- The typical WDW first timer will read that staying off site is OK (& it IS at DLR & it's NOT at WDW) & then they look at the recommended Harbor hotels & might make the huge assumption that using their Hilton/Marriot/Hyatt points makes more sense (i also made that mistake).

They possibly assume that DLR Dis'ers are being cheapsters (or don't have hilton/marriot/hyatt points) by staying at lesser hotels on Harbor. BUT THIS ISN'T THE CASE. DLR Diser's also have these hotel relationships, but they prefer to WALK (for all sorts of good reasons mentioned in the tip threads).....instead of waiting for stinkin' buses at the hilton/hyatt/marriot family hotels....(& being a short 5-7 min. walk away is especially important for mid day rests, which is highly recommended for most folks visiting for 2+ days).

Whatever you choose, best wishes for a magical visit!

I've stayed at the Sheraton near the convention center on Harbor and Katella. It is very nice and I believe the closest Sheraton to Disneyland. It's very easy to walk across the street and take the Disneyland shuttle from the Toy Story parking lot. Otherwise its about a 15-20 minute walk to the Disneyland front gates.

Mortons Steakhouse is next door to this Sheraton and VERY good although expensive. The Hilton and Marriot are both next door with their own restaurants.

We've never stayed at the Harbor blvd. hotels that are easy walking distance. I find them almost always over priced in comparison in order to get somethings thats a 5-10 minute walk to the gates. Some are low end motel quality while some are 3 star level.

Parking at most of the 3 and 4 star hotels in the area are $10-$15/day so figure this into your cost when looking at various hotels.

I stay at the Sheraton, Anaheim. (the one on Ball, that looks like a Castle.) I love this hotel. I have always had good stays there. They have a dedicated shuttle that goes to the park every half hour. Very easy.

The only drawback is that they charge $10 parking per night (per vehicle) even if you're staying on points.

I have stayed at both in the last year. Both are great places. The Sheraton (Castle) has some nice semi formal gardens and the rooms are really big. They have a dedicated shuttle that runs every half hour from the hotel and from the park. It would be a somewhat long walk if you wanted to walk over to the parks as the hotel is behind Disneyland. Didn't swim but the pool looked fine. It was quiet though I have heard that some of the rooms are nearer the freeway and you can hear it.
We stayed at the Sheraton Park a few weeks ago and liked that one a lot as well. The room was not as big but we were put up on a high floor for rewards members. The room was comfortable and quiet with a view of the city (the other side would have views over to Disneyland and the fireworks) and the pool which looked nice. The grounds are not quite as extensive as the Castle and are tropical as opposed to English countryside. We walked to the park and though it was longer than were are used to it was not too bad.
I love the Castle hotel but I think I would choose the Sheraton Park for the location.
