DH and I just stayed at the Sheraton Anaheim (900 S. Disneyland) and I wanted to post a review.
To be perfectly honest...I can't say a single bad thing about them!
The hotel is overall in very good condition, I found very little to complain about as far as condition of either the rooms or common areas. Staff were friendly and efficiant. Rooms are H U G E, easily the largest standard hotel room I've ever stayed in. Even with a rollaway and a ton of luggage, it would still be spacious.
The bathrooms are smaller than what many are now used to, but was fine for us. If there is one quibble, it's that the sink is inside the bathroom along with the toilet/tub so that ties up the sink if someone else needs to "go". But there is a mirror over the dresser, so if someone just needs to do hair/make up etc. it's a workable situation. The beds were something Goldielocks would aprove of, neither too hard nor too soft...and just right!
The rooms are either really well sound proofed or we had considerate neighbors, because we didn't hear a peep from other guests for our whole stay.
There is no free wifi in the rooms, it's $10 per day, but there is a free internet cafe in the lobby, it even has a printer so you can do your boarding passes. Cable tv stations are limited though they do have pay per view (but who watches tv on vacation anyway?). Weather Channel was anoying, they don't give the specific weather for Anaheim/LA but rather generic national weather, if you don't time it right, it can take 15 minutes to get any type of weather forcast. It may be easier to look online at the internet cafe.
The food and alcoholic drinks at the Sheraton are fantastic! Really good quality, definatly a step above what you'll find on DLR property. That said, it's expensive, entres started at $15 and went up from there, though sandwhiches were a bit less. If you get the buffet breakfast included in the room rate, you won't be disapointed. It was all fresh, the cold things cold and the hot things hot. The only quibble is that it was the exact same foods every morning. That said there was a lot to choose from. Scrambled eggs, sausage links, bacon, pancakes, waffles, and hash browns round out the hot offerings. Cold was fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, cereal, granola, and one or two other things I'm probably forgeting. Coffee, hot tea, milk, and juice (apple and orange) are included. The buffet costs $15 per adult if not included in the rate, when we booked it only added $10 per night on to the reservation, so for DH and I (it was just the two of us) we saved $20 per day!
If you don't want a sit down meal, they do have a snack/coffee/sundries/gift shop as well. Also you can order off the restaurant menu to-go and they'll wrap it up for you.
We didn't have time to swim, but we did check out the pool. Good size, clean and well maintained as far as we could tell. Towels available at the pool so no reason to use the ones from your room, there is also changing rooms at the pool (usefull if you want to take a dip before your room is ready on check-in day). No lifeguard on duty though. Hot tub was a bit on the small side, six adults would be a tight fit even if they all know each other! Overall the grounds were lovely! You can see the fireworks from the hotel at night, BUT, they are REALLY LOUD!!! We weren't in the room when they went off during our stay, but I'd be amazed if it wasn't loud enough to wake some people up. Just something to consider if you or your kids have an early bedtime.
I think the highlight of the resort for Disney fans is the shuttle. It's for that Sheraton only, they do NOT share with other hotels, even the other Sheratons in the area. They run every half hour, and operate for about an hour after park closing. The drivers are very nice. Tips are not required but appreciated, we tossed in a dollar or two each morning, that seemed to be the norm of the other passengers as well, they tipped either first thing in the morning or on their last return trip of the day. The trip only took us I'd say 5-10 minutes. I never timed it but it didn't seem to take long at all. The shuttles themselves were all rather comfortable, more so than the WDW busses anyway. Note that they don't allow people to stand per CA law, though you can put little ones on your lap to free up more seats. Once the bus is full you have to wait for the next one, but they seemed to run additional busses at busier times, so we never had to wait a full half hour for the next bus, it usually came along after a few minutes.
We booked the room for $149 a night, though rates w/out breakfast were running $139 at that time. Given that BWPPI and Desert Inn were running $119 to $129, I really think the additional cost was worth it. We were MUCH more comfortable, the food was way better, the pool more to my liking than at either of the motels, and the shuttle was so convienant that I didn't miss being within walking distance at all. DH and I like nicer hotels during our vacations and the motels across from Disney, though clean and generally well run, don't hold a candle to this Sheraton when it comes to ammenities. If you're looking for a more upscale hotel that's still close to DLR, Sheraton Anaheim is the place to be!
If any of you have any questions, feel free to ask, I'll do my best to help you out!
