Sheltered Life

I guess my parents are PRETTY sheltering, but they're not really psycho.
My dad gets freaked out about the internet. So he won't let me get an aim, or even my own email. Come to think about it, he doesn't like message boards, either. Or myspace, etc. Me and him share an email. My mom will let me watch a rated R movie--if it's "tastefully done." She let me watch Brokeback Mountain, but she doesn't let me watch movies that are just crude and insulting. My parents pretty much trust me. I know that there are some people's parents who read the books that their kids want to read to know if there's any "stuff" in it. Well, thank god my parents don't do that. Lol.

Yes, they do. I go to a private Christian school (which I highly dislike)
But I'm also grateful that I do, public schools are scary.
I also don't do much on the weekends or anything, and I get in trouble for petty little things.
Nobody is supposed to know my name or what I look like on here..

I LOVE my parents. They haven't sheltered me at all and I turned out fine. I guess it depends on the morals and what they teach you when you're little. They didn't want me to be blind to all the things going on in the world.

My cousin's parents are BEYOND anything I have ever seen when it comes to sheltering. The 3 kids, which are in middle school, can't watch rudolph the red nosed reindeer because of the FAKE abominal snowman.

Wow..and I thought I was pretty sheltered

I can't even say 'crap' or 'suck'.
:sad2:

I do say them anyway at school though. :p
Ooh, I'm such a rebel.

Same here. The one thing I can't do is curse in front of my parents. Even if I was allowed, I wouldn't anyway because it's disrespectful and I'd feel weird doing it.

I honestly don't know how my parents feel about me cursing in front of them. A few words have slipped before and they just think it's hilarious.

My parents actually do curse, so...I don't know. Hm, something to contemplate.

It'd be weird though, so I wouldn't anyways. I feel weird just saying crap in front of them.

At work though, I burned myself and let a few words slip. Ooooh, not good.

I can...
Swear around my parents, but they'd shoot me if I did it while I was talking to them.
Things like the real word for dang, the other word for crap, hell don't really bug them.
Only the f bomb really.

aww. c'mon. public schools are soooo NOT scary! well....they can be, but not if you have real friends.

i used to be in a private catholic school, but now im in public and i love it!.
i am sheltered. not too sheltered, but pretty sheltered. i wasnt allowed to go to boy girl parties until last year. i am not allowed to hang out with guys just at their houses. not allowed to have them at my house either. im not allowed to have a screen name, myspace, and i just got an email this year. some of my friends are not sheltered at all and they choose not to hang out with guys:confused3 the only way i can is at a school event. i guess guys is really the only way that i am sheltered, so its not that bad:)

Nope, not sheltered.
And I'm REALLY glad for it.
Because they let me make my own mistakes and learn the hard way.
And I think I'm a much more mature and intelligent person for it,
for example, they let me go out and party and do whatever with my friends and whatever mistakes I make (I'm trying to put this lightly here...) I will have to deal with the next day...and I'll never do it again.
But I have NO regrets, of all the things that I've done and the 'mistakes' that I've made, I regret none of them, and the expiriences have made me who I am today if you ask me.

I know back when my dad was my age he did alot of 'stupid' things too, but he hasn't forbidden me from doing anything that he may have done (he's cautioned me obviously, but not forbidden) and I appreciate that he lets me make my decisions for myself.

My parents are very trusting as well, which is great. They trust me not to do anything tremendously stupid so they give me quite a bit of freedom.

As for cursing in front of them, I don't know if they'd have a huge problem with it, but I just don't out of respect really.

Reading this, I realized my parents actually give me a lot more freedom than I give them credit for.

I'm allowed to hang out with whoever I want, I'm allowed to say what I want to say in front of them (within reason, and not in front of my little sisters), and I can generally do what I want to do.

I think the reason my dad is freaked out by the internet is because of all of those scare-stories on the news about people who get hurtful comments on Myspace and commit suicide.

The internet wasn't around when he was a kid, so he doesn't really get it.

My parents trust me big time, but also freak out if they think I am doing something even remotely wrong.
It has its ups and downs.

My mom flipped on me thursday night when I was out past dinner time and didn't call. I told her that morning (for the 8th time) that I would be out late- possibly until 7 or 8 because I was filming a school project and we planned to go out to eat afterwards. She still had a cow over it. I explained why my phone hadn't been answered- we were filming! All of our phones were on silent so that they didn't go off in the middle of a take. She called my friend's house so her mom could call and confirm that I was there. She made me give her a list of all my friend's phone numbers, too.

I'm a straight-A student (or, I would be if my french teacher believed in rounding) and I've never been in trouble before. I'm straight-edge so drinking, smoking, drugs, and promiscuousity are out, but she still thinks that every time I go out, it's to get high.

She likes my friends a lot, too. She knows them and considers them "adopted children" and a few even call her "Mom" (she's a total volleyball/track mom). She doesn't like dyed hair or black nail polish. She doesn't like "goths" or "those stupid people who make themselves ugly on purpose with that funny colored hair". Some of my ex-friends are pot heads (and yes, I've ended a few friendships over that fact- of my own choosing, not hers so that should be a sign that I'm not going to do drugs if I can't even stand to be friends with a druggie). I'm still friends with a few ex-potheads who went clean after one or two times of trying it. Most of my friends drink, but I don't even drink when my cousin (who is 2 years younger than me) breaks out the wine coolers and the jack daniels. My older cousin has been drinking since she was 13.

My dad, however, is much more lax. He lets me watch what I want because he trusts me. I can go out when he's the only one home so long as I'm not out late on a school night and I'm not out past 12 on a weekend. This is the guy who let me watch all 4 Lethal Weapon movies when I was 5.

Not really.

I'm not even sure about the cussing, they never really said much about it.
My family cusses all the time so I'm sure I could probably say something and they wouldn't notice, but I don't anyways.

If we go out and our town isn't that big, suppose we go to Sonic. If I'm going to the library which is a couple blocks away I have to call her.

Oh and definately no myspace. She gets furious even when it's mentioned. I never wanted one anyways, but I was told if she found out I had one I'd be grounded for a really really long time.

Other than that I pretty much have alot of freedom.

 You...you mean that abominal snowman was fake?! Ok, I can turn off my winter night light now!

:p

Seriously though, that's a little too sheltered and a little sad.

My parents are pretty relaxed, they know if i truely wanted to do something I would anyways, so would rather do drink/do drugs or whatever that would be (even though I don't) safely

Would this be an appropriate thread to mention that it was a very proud day for my parents today. Their 8yr old daughter came home from a friends house to tell her mommy all about the wonderful lesbian porn she watched on her friends brothers phone.:rotfl:
Priceless i tell you, priceless.
It's hard to shelter a kid really.

WOW.
That's terrible.
I don't even think my almost ten-year-old sisters know what sex is, let alone porn.
Wow... I can't even wrap my mind around that. That's terrible.

I know right. Her friends brother is only 11 himself. I don't think she realised what she was watching and she didn't seem to think it was wrong. She rememberd every little detail though, my mom's face was certainly a picture. I've been confined to my bedroom because i found the situation so comical plus i tried to listen to my mum and dads conversation about it (walls have ears you know, i was sat on the stairs)
