Pre Trip Report:

Me: 28, ex college program-er, 5 years since last Disney trip
Shell: 26, fiancé, not a huge Disney person, but always up for vacation

Some background info…. Five years ago I got sick of college and, in a last minute decision decided to skip the cold Boston winter (and school) and go down to the Disney College program. I ended up working at Rock n Roller coaster, running the ride. Had a blast, made lots of friends, and haven’t been back since.

Fiancé and I have been together for almost 8 years now. My Disney history includes two family trips as a kid, one offsite, and one at fort wilderness (way back when MGM had just opened). Shell had one trip as a child that she can barely remember. We also did a trip together back in august of 99, without knowing much in the way of planning . So most of Shell’s memories of Florida are of heat and humidity. (Although, the funniest moment of that trip, now that I think about it, is during the pre-show at the just opened rock n roller coaster, looking at “Chris” in the pre-show and saying how boring that job would be….and, less than a year later, actually doing that job)

Back to our little history lesson… our last ‘vacation’ was over three years ago. We, thanks to something called wagerworks (long story) had the opportunity for a cheap vacation to Vegas…we planned it for the week after we closed on our first condo. Bad idea, closing got moved back, spent most of the vacation stressing and on the phone. Fast forward, we get our puppy, and my vacation time each year is spent house-hopping as opposed to park hopping. After a year we sold the condo, bought a half duplex, and after a year and a half of that we ended up building a house, where we are now. No more moving, more vacationing I say.

With a new job (with actual vacation time) I convince Shell to go on the vacation. We’ve never left the dog behind, but agree he will stay with Shell’s mom where there are lots of kids and another dog to play with. And it can only be a short vacation due to Shell’s job (nanny). So we settle on May 5th-9th.

The Planning begins. After lots of waiting, and phone calls, and ‘discussions’ with shell over the Disney Vacation Planning DVD and websites (she ‘hates’ talking about Disney, and I, of course, can’t stop talking about it), we agree to:

Fly on Song (due to Shell’s odd fears, she refused to fly on United, American, US or anything with a name country-related, go figure).
Out of Hartford (ok for me, closer to our new house anyways).
Two nights at Port Orleans French Quarter (Shell’s Pick, of course no AP rates available, got AAA discount)
Two nights at Wilderness lodge woods view (my pick) with the AP discount it was only $20 more than French quarter.

So I set out, make a nice schedule, plan meals (all of which will become basically thrown away, but hey, what can ya do?) and start counting the days!
