Called MS today to check on availability at either the Shelburne or the Plaza in NYC for NYE and the woman at MS thought I was joking. She checked but both were full. I asked her to call the Hotels and she called the Shelburne first. We got a 1br suite for NYE with 28 hours notice.
This is our first concierge exchange. Times Square for NYE was a spur of the moment thing and DVC came through. Gotta love DVC!!

Anybody know anything about the Shelburne?...spruce

I've heard that it's a nice place. My BIL lives in Mid town Manhattan and is close to the Shelburne. Let me know how you like it as I see us using points there sometime to visit him and his wife.

Well, I guess you proved once again "you never know until you call". The Shelburne is part of a chain of older residential type "hotels" in Manhattan. It is perfectly fine and you've got a place in NYC for New Year's. It's a bit of a walk to Times Square but it is "doable". You won't be far from Grand Central Terminal.

Here's their site.

Shelburne Murray Hill

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

We have stayed at the Shelburne twice (this Thanksgiving and last). The suites are very nice, even though they are a little older, it is within walking distance to Times Square at 37th and Lexington (approx. 4 blocks over and 5 blocks down).

Spruce - PLEASE post how you liked the Sherburne. We were considering it since we've stayed at the Plaza already.

I exchanged into the Plaza last year for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. While the hotel is very elegant, we were just a little disapointed with our room. We supposedly had the "top" of the line for DVC points. But you could immediately tell that these rooms were not what someone paying $350.00 per night would have received. It was very clean, and had all the little "extra" items you would expect in a hotel of this calibure. But we were there in the winter, during that time where NYC was in a deep freeze; air temp around 7 degrees. Well so was our room. We had maintenance up 2x's during our stay. There was hardly no heat and the windows had drafts like I'd never seen. We requested another room, but was politely told "there were no more available in our catagory".

So since it was our Wedding Anniversary we "made the best of the chilly situation" and found our own heat!! :) :).

Besides, we were out for most of the days, hitting all the things that we normally don't have time to do when we're downtown. I live in New York City and usually when we're there, it's for things like haircuts, shopping etc. Never things like museums, movies, nice restaurants and our DS was with a friend for the weekend! :) :) :)

Would I go there again! Absolutely....I love Manhattan!!! But I'd love to try the Shelburn some day.

Have a great holiday and Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!
