Sheets question

I sew two top sheets together and put the blanket inside, so I can wash the cover every week.

I don't like top sheets as they get all messed up when I'm sleeping.

I would die from that much heat!

I wear sleeveless nightgowns all year round and we have a summer-weight duvet that we use all year. If we don't have the air on, the blanket is off and we are just using the top sheet.

Our blood must be much thicker than yours, thereby keeping us warm with less. :thumbsup2

Ah, but I have a DH who, in the summer, must have the AC down to 66 that it can sometimes feel like Ice Station Zebra in our room

I had to change the sheets on our bed last night and put a top sheet on, a thin blanket and a thin quilt on.

In the winter, however, our room can feel pretty cold that we wind up having to put on extra blankets sometimes. The house is very old (as well as poured concrete :headache: ) and two out of four windows still need to be replaced. It can be a comfortable 70 degrees downstairs, but once we go upstairs, we can feel the temperature difference and it's usually a few degrees colder.

I've had the house that you're describing, cybrkitn, so I know from where you're coming. But, even then I wore sleeveless nightgowns and had only one blanket or comforter. I like the AC set on freezing, too. I sleep much better when it's cold then when it's too hot.

My DH is even a hotter person than I am. The heat he emits from his body at night could boil water... or so it seems. And, I don't mean that in any bad context for those of you with dirty minds.

That's a good idea. Do you put a zipper on it or anything, or do you just leave the end open?

I don't use a top sheet. I toss and turn too much and it ends up all squished at the bottom of the bed anyway. I do use them in hotels rooms, but I make sure to undo them from the bottom of the bed.

cybrkitn: My boyfriend is just like your DH!! Last time in Disney I swear he froze me out. The AC was spitting out ice cubes and I was covered in goosebumps shivering. He was dead asleep. I told him that if he does that this trip, I will toss him out of the room.

:rotfl:

My DH is 100lbs heavier than I am so what feels comfortable to me feels too hot to him. If I say I'm cold, he'll say it's comfortable . I usually will put an extra blanket on my side of the bed during the winter. During the summer, if I wake up in the middle of the night, I'll find DH laying on top of the sheets.

No top sheet. Just my fleece balnket. Wash once a week.

Top sheet. :thumbsup2 Never heard of anyone not using one.

Of course lately I've gotten tired of fighting dh for the covers so he uses the sheet and the quilt and I use my ds' old comforter. LOVE IT. Dh wants me to go back to sharing the covers with him, but this comforter is so soft-- sadly its only a twin.

I'm a top sheet hater, too! I think they are too cold, stiff, and scratchy. I only like a soft cuddly comforter against my skin. Been that way since I was a small child, as has my sis. Mom thinks we're crazy.

GF loves herself a top sheet, and we both complained a lot about the sheet situation when we first got together. I'd wake up in the morning with it wrapping its tentacles of death around me.

I don't wash my comforter all that often, either.

Guess I'm just dirty.

Top sheet. I have never heard of anyone not using one.

I get way too hot at night with the comforter on but am cold without at least a sheet.

No top sheet for me. DH likes one so I fix the bed with it then put it in the middle of the bed when I get in.

My boys also do not use a top sheet.

I use a top sheet, DH does not. Imagine how much fun that is in the middle of the night. We have a king bd and I am seriously considering putting a twin top sheet on my side of the bed!!

And I thought it was only me who is a top sheet hater;)

Wow, the interesting things you learn on the DIS- I never even considered NOT using a top sheet!!

Although, I do have a friend who didn't use a top sheet when she had a down comforter- she used a duvet cover, and said it was like a huge pillowcase. Since it was made of sheeting material, and it was easy to wash, she just used that.

I have a duvet cover on our down comforter, but still use a top sheet- I don't like to remove the duvet cover any more than I have to- it is a royal pain to get back on!!

I have
bottom fitted sheet
top sheet
two felt like blankets
one conforter thing
other fleece blankets

we live in a valley and we have a huge east wind that hits the side of the house that i sleep on. so the insilation is crappy on the side.. I sleep like that all season.. iam even cold laying in a tank top and jeans with the AC on.. I do need to get new blankets however.. looks like Ikea will be getting a visit in the winter.

It seems so unclean to me to not use a top sheet.

Sheets are like the underwear of your bed. They protect your blankets from sweat, dirt, and the little bits of skin your body sloughs during the night.

Otherwise, you would have to wash your blankets every week.

We've always used top sheets. I love the way they feel.

Menopause has made changes in my life. I've always been too cold and worn heavy sleepclothing and blankets so I haven't needed the top sheet. DH has always taken the top sheet.

Now.......I find the top sheet is more than enough and very comfortable with my cover, uncover, cover, uncover....repeat the process during the whole night.
