SO, DH and I bought a new mattress and box spring w/ our tax return. We decided to spring for a king size, we have a queen right now. I now have to buy all new bedding.. I LOVE my sheets, I have had them for 10+ years and they are so soft and comfy. My comforter/shams/bed skirt are from a set, so this means I will most likely need curtains too, unless I can find a comforter that matches mine now. While I am excited to "re-do" my bedroom, I don't want to break the bank, especially since we kind of splurged on the mattress set. I've been looking on Overstock at some sheets that have really high thread count, but is that necessary? My super comfy queen size sheets were bought at LNT and Target, so I'm sure they aren't high thread count (I didn't even know about thread count when I bought them).

Anyone have a great place to buy this stuff... I still have some tax return money left over, so I just want to get it all bought, and the mattress and boxpring are being delivered on the 18th.

TIA

Make sure you get sheets with pockets deep enough for your new mattress. Lots of newer mattresses are much deeper than older ones. I know we got a new king mattress and none of my old king sheets would fit.

I love Overstock.com for sheets, blankets, comforters, etc....practically all of our stuff is from there.

Overstock has a really nice guide on the website about sheets and thread counts. You might want to check that out. Personally, I like 400 count sheets, because the higher count ones seem a little stiff to me.

Definitely check at Burlington Coat Factory. We did the same thing last year, and we got (Nautica) a king comforter, bed skirt, pillow cases, and curtains for $118.00 at Burlington.

I like the bamboo sheets at Target. They get softer with each wash, and don't wrinkle too much. The higher-end percale sheets that I've purchased are not treated to be wrinkle fee, and come out of the dryer looking pretty bad, especially the top of the flat sheets or edges of pillowcases. I don't have time to iron sheets.

Love the shabby chic sheets at target... They're not super high thread count, but they are still soft and comfy. And they have pockets deep enough for our sleep number mattress which is pretty dang thick!

If you live in a cold area, I would recommend the Cashmina sheets by www.Domestications.com. They are the best. :thumbsup2 We call them the "magic" sheets--you just feel so comfortable in them. They are warm, but not heavy. The only thing I did not like they come with very cheap stiff pillow cases. I had my Mom make me some soft fleece pillow cases. I think Brylane Home has similar looking sheets, but without seeing them in person I can't be sure.

If you end up having to purchase a whole new comforter set, why not purchase a set in a solid color so that it will match your curtains....that might help keep the costs down. Then you would be able to keep your current sham set on the bed as accent pillows?

I think if you are really trying to keep costs down, one set of sheets in a solid color will do for now - just strip it off in the morning and put it in the washer - as long as you have your own set in the house, shouldn't be a problem until you have found a set you like and want to (and can afford to) purchase a second set.

I agree with Overstock. I love them! I wash them and put them right back on. Definitely get the deep pockets as they stay on better with them. And go through ebates or bing for extra cashback!

If you are a member of BJ's, I have a set of flannel sheets from there and a set up cotton 450 count?? I think. Very nice sheets, durable and soft. But don't ball up.

We got a king this Christmas. I bought flannels from Eddie Bauer with a duvet cover to match but it was all on sale/clearance. I absolutely love them but they are normally expensive.

For a budget solution, buy a fitted sheet in a matching/contrasting cover and use the rest of the queen set. You'll probably find that this works just fine until you have extra money to buy everything new.

Our newest sheets are from Sam's club. Two sets of king sheets (400+ thread count) one set is just solid color and the other set is the same color but damask stripe...so you can mix and match, all for less than $60. They have really deep pockets. My other favorite sheets are Northern Nights from QVC...if you watch you can catch them as a Today's Special Value and they are worth it!!! I have 400 thread count Northern Nights sheets that are so soft and comfy, I hate to get out of bed :rotfl:

A good place to get King Sized Pillows is Ross Dress for Less. You can find name brand pillows for $10.

We buy our sheets at Costco. They are 3000 count and feel great and have deep pockets. They are very reasonable at $40/$50.

If you have one in your area, check out Ross Dress For Less. I got 700ct King sheets for my Mom for $19.99, and they also had tons of comforters and full sets. Their prices are INCREDIBLE!

What are you going to do with your old sheets and comforter set?

definitely go to wal mart or sams club..... walmart just came out with a whole bunch of new things for bedding, and you could do site to store with some of them on the website

What are you going to do with your old sheets and comforter set?

A charity in my area is listed in the Give a Day database asking for sheets for a "Bed in a Bag" program for people that are transitioning from homeless shelters into homes and apartments. The sheets can be used if they are laundered and in good condition. You might be able to turn the old sheets in to a free Disney day if they have something like that where you live. :)

Try Marshalls or TJ Maxx, they always have great deals on really good brands. Also when I first got married and got an expensive comforter set as a gift, I didn't have matching curtains and couldn't afford them, so I made some valances out of 2 twin sheets in the same pattern. I am not that "crafty" and I don't really sew, just bought inexpensive drapery holders and tucked the sheets around them like a drapery "scarf". They looked really good and were coordinated like I bought the expensive set.

When we upgraded to a king size bed several years ago (it was a tax refund splurge for us too :)) I bought a comforter set with everything including drapes at Burlington Coat Factory for around $250.00 + another $50 for a 2nd set of sheets. I have since seen better deals at Marshalls and TJ's

Good Luck and enjoy the king, it is so nice to have all of that room to spread out.

Hi- OP here again.

I found a comforter set I love on JCPenneys website....... it comes w/ dust ruffle, shams, and decorative pillows and there are 2 curtains I can buy to match.... w/ the 15%off coupon I found it is just under $300.00. I am looking at sheets on Overstock now, but might look at Marshalls, TJMaxx, Burlington Coat Factory, Target etc.... I just needed to know what my comforter looked like before I bought sheets.

Oh, and my bro-in-law is taking our queen size mattress/box spring so he is getting all of the bedding since he has a full now. If he doesn't want it for some reason, I will be giving it to an organization nearby that helps people transitioning from shelters to apartments that we donate to from time to time.

Thanks again!
