She was feeling a bit sheepish!! An Aug '16 TR. Poly, DxDP, and toddlers!! UPDATED 2/13!!

This report is AWESOME! So helpful for me to read as we are staying at the Poly next July. The girls are gorgeous and y'all look like you're having a blast! (Except for the sad cabana picture, lol).

Thank you!! Glad to have you following along! :) New update coming shortly...

Friday, August 20 – Finally, some downtime!

I scheduled this day as a “resort day”, and my only wish is that I had done it sooner in the trip! We were all running on empty by this time. I completely underestimated how much the heat would zap us all, and how much of a bear Carter would be off of her nap and daily routine schedule. Whew! I was definitely going to need a vacation from our vacation!

We started with a semi-late (9-something) breakfast at ‘Ohana. The food doesn’t do much for me here, but Lilo & Stitch is one of our favorite movies, so we cannot go to Disney without seeing the little blue 626 guy at least once! Carter was content to just watch from her chair, but Zoey met all the characters and participated in the parade around the restaurant.

After breakfast/brunch/whatever, we went back to the room and just hung out for awhile and eventually made it to the Oasis pool. I think we probably spent at least 2 hours there, enjoying the water, before heading back in to keep from getting sunburned.

We were ready for something to eat, but didn’t want a huge meal, since we were heading over to Fort Wilderness later in the evening, so I just hopped over to the Oasis pool bar and grill. This was a great little spot to have, so handy since it was close to our longhouse! I used one meal credit to order the kalua pork sliders with fries, malasadas (Portuguese donuts), and a milk (for Carter, of course). I then used snack credits on an order of the house-made Poly chips, a bag of Cheetos (seriously, kids!), and a brownie. As, usual, it was way too much food even though we were all sharing one entrée. By this point in the trip, I had made myself a believer that the Deluxe Dining Plan was far too much food for us to reasonably consume—never again!

At some point on this day, we also used snack credits on an Olaf popsicle and a Mickey bar from the Oasis pool—it must’ve been while we were out swimming. How could we possibly have been that hungry??

Anyway, we spent the afternoon just enjoying the shade and a/c in our room and catching up on Disney Junior/napping off and on. It was much needed for all of us!

Finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for (yeah, right!)…the reason why this TR is titled what it is…

Zoey had been attending a summer program at a daycare all summer long, and I know that she was learning a lot and hearing some new stories that they didn’t have at her preschool. At some point during this afternoon of our trip, she starts rambling on about a story that her summer program teacher had read to her the week prior. Like any good mother (snort!), I was sort of tuning her story out, because it sounded just like Goldilocks and the Three Bears to me. Since I was only half paying attention and had missed some pertinent details, I completely fell out of my chair when she got to the punch line, of “Why did [what I thought she said] Goldilocks feel sick?” Answer: “She was feeling a little sheepish!” I was so confused—I was like Zoey, come on, what are you talking about…and she was all, “MOM, I told you this is GOAT-ilocks, not GOLD-ilocks!” Snort. Crash. Snort some more. Humor, this kid has it! :rotfl2:

Eventually, it was time to boat over to Fort Wilderness (via the MK), where my little Minnie Mice were headed to Mickey’s Backyard BBQ!

This was another first for all of us, and it was just fantastic! However…we had two things working against us…1) the HEAT, omg, the heat. I know I sound like a broken record, but just remember this all takes place outside. While there is shade, the evening sun gets low and still beams into the pavilion, depending on where you are sitting (it was right on top of our seats!). You also have to wait in line for awhile before being seated, and we were all sweating to death before dinner even started! The second thing was that my oldest kiddo was having a moment. I know she was over tired, over heated, and over-sugared, so I gave her some grace…but when her attitude reached a tipping point, we bailed out of the BBQ and left before the show was over. We enjoyed our dinner (seriously, the buffet is awesome, not to mention the all-you-can-eat Mickey bars!), but didn’t even stay long enough to meet-n-greet with any of the characters. We were all disappointed, but sometimes tough love is hard on everyone. Bummer. It is on my list to have as a “re-do” in December, though!

By the time we had gotten back to the Poly, Mom and Carter headed off to bed. I think both of them were appreciative of the unexpectedly early bedtime. Zoey had turned her attitude around by then, so we decided to walk over to the GCH and catch the outdoor movie, which was Big Hero 6. About halfway through the movie, we used two more snack credits on Dole Whips for both of us, watched Wishes from the Poly beach, and ended the night on a much better note. :)
