SHE SAID YES!!! - A match made on Disboards UPDATED

Thanks everyone for the congratulations :-)

This is all amazing. Like I said, I haven't actually propsed yet, but as you probably can tell, Christy knows its coming, and I kinda hinted her and all of you as to exactly when. We've already been discussing the wedding and honeymoon and such and decided that part of the honeymoon will involve Disney. I also suggested that maybe on the wedding cake we have a hidden mickey that only the two of us know is there as a sentimental thing :-)

Speaking of a wedding cake...it's poll time... How many of you out there have ever heard of a seperate grooms cake (like a chocolate cake) in addition to the white wedding cake???? I grew up on the east coast and have been to more then a couple weddings and I've never seen a seperate chocolate cake. Christy insists its done frequently though :-) I'm just curious as to if everyone out there knows of this as well...

(Isn't my future wife gorgeous!!!) :-)

Of course I've heard of a groom's cake. Doesn't have to be chocolate though.

Congratulations, btw! :cloud9:

In the south, there's always a grooms cake. Tradition is chocolate, but I've seen others. My bil had a hockey rink cake, a friend LOVES Krispy Kreme, and they made a cake out of doughnuts. My dh got the plain jane chocolate cake with sugared fruit. Very good.

Congrats on a lifetime of happiness for you both. But, didn't you take away the element of surprise by sending her to this thread?? :confused3 Even if she knows it's coming, a girl loves surprises!

Congrats from someone else who married an online romance (10 years this past June!!!) and yes, chocolate groom's cake...yummy!!! Or, you could have an armadillo... :rotfl2: (see: Steel Magnolias for reference ;))

Best wishes to you both!

Yes! I had a groom's cake at my wedding...13 years ago. No one had ever heard of it, including the catarer! I explained to her what it was...and it was wonderful. Since my wedding, she said that she's had dozens of requests for the same thing. It was very popular at my wedding!
enjoy, and best wishes for a life of happiness...

Groom's cake... We had one! But it was not chocolate. My Mom and I made it actually. Tradition holds that it is a white fruit cake, and that is what we made. That was almost 33 years ago so I don't remember where we found the information about the tradition. :rotfl:

Oh, and I am from the East Coast too... Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania originally.

For my DH I had a groom's cake made that reflected his love of golf. In some places groom's cakes can be theme cakes or some are just a different type of cake. How fun it would be to have a Disney themed groom's cake. :Pinkbounc

Congrats. My DH's groom's cake was a computer, since that is his job. I made a chocolate one for a wedding in San Antonio that was amazing! YUM. I've seen German Chocolate ones, also. Many times they are decorated according to the groom's hobbies or job.

Silly boy, everyone knows the groom's cake is always better than the actual wedding cake itself! ;) I myself always head straight for the chocolate.

I've seen some really creative groom's cakes. You can have them made in the shape of a tux, to reflect your occupation, hobbies, etc. Just have fun with it and let your imagination run wild. Hey, how about a DIS groom's cake???? :earsboy: :earsgirl:

Best wishes for the both of you!!!
For our wedding, my husband is an avid Hunter, so I had a chocolate cake made. There was a deer dressed in camo holding riffle, sitting in the deer stand~the hunter was being hunted!!! it was soo cute :rotfl:
P.S. cant go wrong with a TEXAS GIRL ;) you guys are a cute couple

Congratulations! This really is a nice story.

Congratulations! What a great story!

As for groom cakes, I really haven't seen many at weddings out here in CA. We didn't have one at our wedding.

I keep trying to tell him this!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

And I did come up with the idea last night of maybe having a disney themed grooms cake. We'll keep everyone posted through the Disney themed details as it comes along.....

(Yes, plans are being made even though the ring is not *technically* on my finger yet)

Congrats guys!!! What a nice story! I've never heard of a groom's cake myself, but it sounds like a good idea to me!

How cute are the two of you? I am so excited for the both of you. Bill, it will be nice to meet you in person. You and CGo sould take a trip up to Minneapolis soon. :P

Groom's cakes aren't done too much here, but I loooove them. They are soo much fun.

There's always room for an unexpected surprise ;-)

What?? Don't keep us in suspense! We promise we won't tell Christy!!

Congratulations to both of you:) What a lovely story..."And to think, it all started with a mouse...";)

Groom's Cake...we have it here on the East Coast of Canada too..but DH didn't want cake, he wanted CHOCOLATE FUDGE!...we wrapped it in the foil, as per tradition, and passed it out along with the wedding cake:)

Have fun planning!!

:sunny:

We didn't actually have a groom's cake, but I have definately heard of them. Must be my Southern upbringing. :flower:
