We are not into the autograph books but i thought it might be cute to have the characters autograph his T shirt if ds was into it. Is there a benefit to fabric markers? Can I use regular permanent Sharpie?

Also, do most people get the regular sharpies or should we get those big huge thick suckers? I know something skinny might be hard for the characters to grasp but a regular sharpie, would it be ok??

TIA
Tara

I could be completely wrong but i'm under the impression that characters aren't allowed to sign bodies/clothing.

I bought a package of the click Sharpies (no lid) and the characters signed 3 shirts for my niece (Princesses, Stitch, Mickey and the gang). They picked out the color they wanted to sign with.

I don't know about the characters being allowed to or not but the Sharpie color will fade in just a couple of washes. My DS ususally has teachers and camp counselors sign shirts at the end of camp or the end of school. I don't have any experience with the fabric markers but they might be better.

I have both shirts & sweatshirts that NASCAR drivers signed over 10 years ago using a regular black sharpie. The autographs have faded a little, but are still quite legible after 10 years+ of washing & drying.

Characters are allowed to sign shirts, hats, almost any piece of clothing.. as long as they are not being worn. Casts are the only thing they'll sign while being worn...

Regular sharpies and click sharpies are great. Don't use the mini's and fat ones are neccesary. Don't worry about using anything to press on, the autorgraph looks best when the shirt is stretched out by hand, if not you'll end up with bumps and a messy autograph.

Bring a few colors and let the characters pick out which one they want to use. Be careful of the metalic sharpies, they have a tendancy to stop working real fast, and after a few signs, they won't have that nice shine to them.

Or you could go to the craft store, they sell t-shirt transfers that you can draw on, although I don't know if the picture would be reversed, i've never done it.

I'm actually planning on picking up a sturdy canvas messenger bag before my next trip and getting signatures on that.

I have a t-shirt that has probably 50 or so characters signed on it. I've used a regular black Sharpie and every so often I set the signatures by soaking the shirt in a solution of white vinegar and water. That has kept the signatures vivid for several years now.

We did T-shirts last time and used the fabric markers...for two reasons....sharpies are said to fade (don't know didn't chance it) and also the fabric markers are big and fat (characters with gloves loved them because they were easier to hold). DS was NOT wearing his shirt. Also if you do T-shirts don't forget something hard to bear down on.
Another option that worked a lot better for us is a plain baseball hat.
He grew out of the t-shirt after a year but 3 years later can STILL wear that hat :0)

DD and her friends sign shirts on their church retreats with Sharpies and they always fade after a few washings. I will try the vinegar next time. I had the characters sign my Minnie and Mickey autograph dolls and poor Minnie picked up the pen wrong and "wrote" all over her glove...I felt bad.
