Shark Reef Ages

Does shark reef (or any of the other water park attractions) allow for child swaps?

I don't know about Shark Reef but Child swap doesn't work at the Water Parks.

I remember writing about this months ago, I think it was one of my first posts.

The slides aren't setup for child swap, they don't have a separate FP line to use and the exit of the slide isn't near entrance.

I remember going to Typhoon Lagoon in 1997 when I was 9 and I stood on the sidelines while everyone else swam with the sharks. I was waaay to afraid! For those of you who have done this, is there a barrier of some sort to stop the sharks from comming up and chomping on your leg?

No but they will not chomp on your leg.

This isn't Jaws.

Give me a few minutes...i just found my pics and am trying to get the uploaded from when we went in 04...kids have vests on and they were 5,6,8 at the time...

My family did this today. There is no age restriction, but the child must be able to swim w/ a life jacket independantly. They will provide a youth life jacket & swim mask. ALL masks are adult sized w/ adjustable straps. These did not fit my youngest boys. Bring your own youth googles!! They recommend it too!

Really? Disney provides youth life jackets for this? Great information, thanks! Are these only for young kids, or olders kids as well?

My daughter will be 11 and is not quite able to swim on her own yet. She was doing very well last year in her aunt's inground pool with just the arm floaty thing on just 1 arm. But she doesn't have the confidence to swim without something to help. A lifejack would be perfect!

With the life jacket and the extra buoyancy of salt water, she shouldn't have a problem swimming. The cold may get to her though. My wife is a tad asthmatic and it took her breath away.

There is also a little landing in the middle of the pool that you can rest on and a life guard in the pool.

When we first did it 10 years ago, everyone got a vest. Not a life jacket but something that gave you more buoyancy and a little protection for your chest in the cold water. This last time no vest.

Ohh thanks! Even better to hear about the landing in the middle. I didn't know there was a place to rest. I thought she would have to swim straight across without stopping pretty much.

Looks like this is back on our list of things to try! :goodvibes

What!? Its not Jaws!! Oh, wait a min...this is Disney not Universal! Oops my bad! :lmao:

Guess this means I can't feed my DBf to the sharks....too bad. I really wanted a pic of a shark with a big smile on its face, with a piece of his shirt hanging out of its mouth. Darn, now if only I could find an aligator.........
:rolleyes::rolleyes1

When you say bring your own goggles, do you mean the snorkel part too?
We are trying to decide between this and SeaWorld eind the scenes tour with a small shark interaction. Anyone have opinions? We are going to SW anyway, but this would bump up our AP plans. DS-5 1/2-is crazy about sharks and a pretty good swimmer.
