I didn't know where else to post this so I figured this is pretty far "West" so I thought this forum might be the best. Mods, if not, please move to where you think it should be.

Has anybody done any shark cage diving tours on Oahu? I'm only able to locate two of them and they're right by each other. They both launch from the north shore. One is called North Shore Shark Adventure and the other is called Hawaii Shark Encounters.

I'd like to get some feedback from anybody that has used either tour. One question that I do have is the amount of people they take a one time on a boat and how many people they allow in the cage at one time. Any other tips and feedback is welcome. Thanks.

There's a fair amount of discussion about Oahu over in the DVC Resorts section due to Aulani. You might want to try there if you don't get a response here.

You sure are brave, never even heard of such a thing. I went swimming with dolphins and I was so excited and it was a great experience!

I did the North Shore Shark Adventure a few years ago. Everyone I was with loved it. I was pretty "enh" but then I've seen sharks in the wild when I wasn't in a cage, so in a cage felt like cheating. The guys on the boat from North Shore Shark Adventure couldn't have been nice.

Do buy the DVD.

You should look it up. As GoBears puts it, it's like cheating. You have the safety of the cage although the top is open to view the sharks. As I understand it, Great Whites are not natural to Hawaii so we're not talking Jaws here. Tiger sharks and Hammerheads apparently have been known to be seen in the area every now and again. As I understand it, the sharks that normally come around are not seal eaters but mostly fish eaters.

It seems like North Shore Shark Adventure gets more mention when I do web searches and such. I have an underwater case for my Canon camera and camcorder and so I was just planning on bringing that when we do go. How many people were on your boat and what time of day did you sail out?

There were 8 of us, all friends, all open water swimmers in town for the Waikiki Roughwater Swim. We took the first boat out in the morning. You can easily shoot your own footage, but for $25 or $40 more (or whatever it was) it was a cool thing to get the DVD from them.

I think the sharks we saw were all Galapagos (so strict pescetarians, wouldn't eat chicken or beef) and not especially threatening.

All that said..... the Great Whites don't hang around Hawaii, but it is part of their yearly loop. Look at this incredible footage shot by the guys at NSSA.
