Shari's Disney Dining Review - Yorkshire stylee! (With pics!)

It's great to see a review of Shutters.:goodvibes We'll be at CBR for the first time in Deceber and I've never really seen any reviews of the food there. I'm hoping you'll have one of the CS there as well .

Shutters was great! A hidden gem! (You'll see that we loved it so much we had to go back again!;) )

We definitely had CS meals at Old Port Royal - I can't remember if we took any photos but I'll look.

Great start - waiting for LTT as we go there in December :thumbsup2

Another Yorkshire girl here (went nr Scarborough yeasterday - Staintondale) & I like a good butty too!!!

Thanks to everyone for reading so far! I'll attempt regular updates but as we only got back yesterday we're still sorting all the photos!

Anyway, this was our first full day in WDW and we were ready to EAT!!

We had a nibble of last night's Shutter's desserts in our hotel room (Key lime pie for breakfast anyone?) just to give us the super energy we would need to hit the Magic Kingdom.

We got to the park for rope drop and we managed to get on lots of rides without too many queues. By 10:30 ish we were peckish and we knew we wouldn't be eating at Liberty Tree Tavern until 2:30. We needed food and we needed it now! We didn't want to fill up too much before LTT so we decided to share a couple of counter service meals at Columbia Harbour House. As it had just opened it was empty when we got there. So we got served very quickly and took our food upstairs.
I really liked this place - it was spacious and clean with lots of great seafearing theming. We also liked the music they played too!

We got a couple of chicken nuggets meals to share and they were actually plenty big enough for us to share. The chips (fries) were really good. I'm a fries connoisseur and as you will see I had plenty of opportunity to test lots of them at WDW. The nuggets were also very crispy. We liked the chocolate cakes for dessert - they were mighty chocolately and gooey!

We went on lots more rides until it was time for our ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern. We'd been there during our 2006 trip and really enjoyed it.
I must point at this point that at no table service meal did we have to wait long to be seated. We mostly showed up 15 minutes before our ADR time and most times were seated before our actual ADR time. We were very impressed by this. I'd heard such horror stories of people waiting ages past their ADR time.

Roberto was our server today and he was very attentive. My only minor grumble would be that last time we sat in a window seat and had a good view of the parade - this time we were seated at the back near where the servers brought the drinks out. Not the greatest location but it certainly wasn't going to spoil our meal!

We shared some deep fried cheese for starters:

This was delicious - I could have stuffed my face with this! For main course I had the pot roast. Simon had this last time and I'd really liked the look of it. It didn't disappoint. The meat was so tender and the mash (I'm also a mash connoisseur - potatoes of any kind really!) was wonderful!

Sarah had a chicken salad:

And Simon and Kate had a burger each:

Everyone enjoyed their food although it was very filling! Sarah and I were the only ones who could manage a dessert. She had caramel apple pie with cinnamon ice cream and I had strawberry shortcake with cream and berries. It looked like a huge cake when it came and I was worried it would be heavy but it was light as a feather! (Sorry no pics!)

We rolled out of LTT and did some more rides. We went over to Mickey's Toontown fair and it became so hot that we needed a drink. We decided to try the frozen lemonade. It was lovely and icy but a bit sweet to drink the whole thing. A good pick me up though!

So, we ate well on our first day!

Hi from a fellow Yorkshirewoman!!! Loving the reviews and waiting for more!!

great photos - we always get the same thing you got at columbia harbor house!

/
Heeeere's Meryll!!!!!

I found you!

So far I've been most impressed by the look of Sarah's apple sour, and the sound of her caramel apple pie with cinnamon ice cream!! You can see what a healthy eater I am, that's the problem with being a bit fussy!

I love all things cherry, cinnamon and peanut butter flavoured (not altogether, although maybe I could try this sometime ....) and I feel there is a severe lack of these things in the UK, so I love getting my fix at WDW!

I hope you still make it to Le Cellier, that was our absolute fave!

You've done very well with the picture taking, we kept forgetting until we were half were through the main course most times!!

Looking forward to more! :goodvibes

Fantastic! The fried cheese at LTT looks heavenly - I love me some hot, gooey cheese :)

It was delicious! Probably one of my fave dishes on the trip.

looks delicous ^^"
We really had some good food. Sorry I didn't take pics of everything - I was too busy eating!

Great update.

Hey Meryll! Talking about cherries - everytime we saw something with cherries on it, Sarah said 'Ooh! That's like Meryll's bag!' She did in fact buy a cherry watch in the end!
Yes, lots of cinnamon and peanut butter items were consumed during this trip.

And don't worry about Le Cellier - there was no way I was passing that opportunity up!!

I tried to remember to take pics - I thought Si and the girls might get fed up with me but in the end they were really good and waited to start until I'd taken a photo. By halfway through the holiday we just passed the camera around and they all took photos of their own food! (You'll see Sarah's become a bit arty!)

Fantastic! The fried cheese at LTT looks heavenly - I love me some hot, gooey cheese :)

I know! Sometimes we had starters, sometimes we didn't but we couldn't pass up the cheese!

Coming up - Tusker House!

Hello Everyone!

I'm suffering from a bad case of post Disney blues so writing this review is quite theraputic!

Thursday 14th August - Animal Kingdom Day! We had another nibble at our Shutters desserts for breakfast. They had to see us through till 11.30am for our ADR at Tusker House.

2008_0818Image0166.jpg

I can see why some people have qualms about the waiting area. We checked in early and had about a 15 min wait before being seated. It was raining at this point and we were sheltering in the nearby bar area. Quite a few other families were doing the same thing. Luckily we didn't have too long to wait and we were taken through to the restaurant, which was quite quiet at that point - the break between breakfast and lunch perhaps?

Here is a pic of Simon and I at Tusker House: (Don't you just love that suncream sheen?)

2008_0818Image0179.jpg

Anyway, the interior of the restaurant was lovely, cool and dry! (Before the rain we had got soaked on Kali River Rapids - that'll teach us!). Our server was Nancy B and she was funny. She was also very attentive during our meal, clearing away empty plates and refilling drinks.
She took our drinks order - Si and I ordered Tusker Beer and it was very nice! I'm not a big beer drinker but I do seem to have ordered a lot of beer during this holiday! It somehow seems more acceptable to drink beer in the middle of the day than wine!
I had been slightly anxious about this place with it being relatively new. But it was superb! We went through to the buffet and there was so much choice for all four of us and our differing tastes. I had - beef, pork, salmon, bread, mashed potatoes (:) ), wedges, chick pea salad, samosas, green bean and it was all lovely.

2008_0818Image0180.jpg

We got back to the table to find that the drinks had arrived. The Tusker beer was lovely and refreshing and went perfectly with the food.

Here is a photo of some of the different breads:

2008_0818Image0182.jpg

I couldn't face a whole new plate of food but I went back for some edited highlights! (It was difficult to choose!)

Then it was time for dessert: (Sorry it's blurry - I must have been overexcited!)

2008_0818Image0183.jpg

I got lots of little samples of puddings -so I could try them all! I especially liked the chocolate case with strawberry mousse, the cinnamon bread pudding with vanilla sauce (yes Meryll - cinnamon again!) and the pecan pie type dessert. I also tried some lemon cake, baklava, a coconut macaroon and a chocolate cake thingey. They were all good!

So all we paid for with this meal was the beer and the tip. We felt we had great value from Tusker House. The dining plan was also working really well for us - yes we seemed to get lots of receipts but we had no problems with the plan the whole holiday.

Later on, after more animal kingdom fun (I really must write a trip report!) we decided to go on my fave AK ride - Dinosaur. Sarah was feeling delicate and didn't want to go on it so we installed her on the verandah at Restaurantasaurus (sp?) with a Sprite and a bowl of fries!! She seemed quite happy sitting there, out of the rain!

We had a really busy day at AK and got to do loads of things. The meal at Tusker house really kept us going.

When we got back to the hotel we decided to go to Old Port Royale for a CS meal. (Sorry I didn't take any pictures!) Once we'd figured out the system we were fine. There are different counters serving different things. Luckily, the kids are old enough that we could all go off, order what we wanted and then meet up back at the register.

This night I had a chicken Caesar salad, Si had a philly cheesesteak (he loves his meat!) Sarah had a bacon, turkey, tomato and cheese sandwich and Kate had a hotdog and fries. It was all very good and we had no problem getting a seat in the food court, despite the stories of overcrowding we'd heard about. From what we later saw, breakfast time was very busy and also when we went over later in the evening to fill our mugs, the food court would also be quite full. 6 oclock ish was fine.

Coming up - Sunshine Seasons and Coral Reef.

Would Shari ever pluck up the courage to order a Glowtini?
Would Simon ever eat a vegetable?
Would Kate and Sarah drink WDW dry of Sprite?

Coral Reef? Amazing or Awful?
Tune in to the next installment to find out!

Shari xx

Great update again, Tusker house looks really good.

We were really pleasantly surprised by Tusker House. I know it had used to be a CS place and people were mourning the loss of that. I always worry about buffet style meals but this was fantastic. It made me look forward to Boma later in the trip.

Ironically, we had been due to go to Tusker House again the following week but we'd cancelled it and booked RR for an evening meal instead. I just didn't like the idea of returning to a restaurant - so many restaurants, so little time!

But after this meal we had a moment of regret that we'd cancelled going back. I could have happily eaten here again! But in the end, we were glad we got the chance to try another TS meal.

Thanks for reading!

Hi Shooby. We did have an ADR for Shutters on our first night. We just wanted to make sure we had something booked after the journey. We did however change the time with ease - we'd booked it for 8pm in case there were any flight delays and they had lots of free spots - we went for 6pm.
Also, we liked it so much we wanted to go back for our final night meal. We only booked this a couple of days before hand without any difficulty. You probably would get in okay but if you want to be sure, I would make an ADR. It just gave us peace of mind on that first night. So you're staying at CBR? We absolutely loved it!

I am also not English! I'm Yorkshire! (My brother was born in Jimmy's!)

You'll notice we didn't go to the 50's Prime time Cafe!:rolleyes1
