Is there anyone besides me that has this as a pet peeve? I fly in for vacation and back out with souvenirs, so suitcase weight matters now.
At home I have a permanent coffee filter. When I go to my Boardwalk, I have to buy coffee filters, because I bring my own coffee, as the gift pack in the room is really bad. It annoys me to no end to buy 100 filters and throw away 90. Obviously it isn't a money thing, or a weight thing... it is a wasteful thing.
To throw things away that you don't use and don't need to take back with you is so disappointing. Is there a way that we can share this stuff?
With left over sodas and water in bottles, I just leave them in the vending room. I figure some thirsty person will figure it out. But there are so many other things that you only might need one or two of... a cup of tide, a dryer sheet or two...
Originally I thought, oh gee, I'll leave it for the maid ...then I thought about how many people must be doing that too. How many bottles of beer can the poor dear drink before she can't show up for work the next day?
Why can't we find a way to share these things as a resort community?
Can we lobby the community room to set up a space or find another way to share? It bothers me so to throw away so many nonperishable things that the next person will most probably need.

I guess I take the opposite approach---I buy what I need for DVC stays at home and pack what I need. I keep a small bag of it all together, including zip lock baggies of Tide powder, a very small container of Downey, coffee filters, special coffee, special tea bags, Splenda, creamer things. Refill as needed for the next trip. Easy!

As far as drinks go, we make a run to Publix and try not to buy more than we will finish. Sometimes easier said than done, but we usually get pretty close.

Someone in the family board posted that they had half a case of water to give away to the next person.

When we arrived she left us water, ceral, bowels, lemonade, etc. It was very easy, she just posted, I responded and she made sure it was waiting for us when we check in.

We could do something like that. Just post and see if anyone is coming in next. I also just hate to waste things.

I have been seen running around before check out handing out water.

Rent a locker from the guys with the sticky at the top of the page and just use your own stuff over and over again.

Disney was asked a few years ago about food donations. They will not get involved due to the risk of someone leaving food that has been tampered with. Can't say I blame them!

Yeah, and I can understand Disney not wanting to get involved. They have to plan for a really malicious person, look at what people have done to Tigger and the other characters.

I just like the idea that we could "pass it on".

As far as the locker idea, it sounded good , but then I calculated that it would cost more per month for the locker than the stuff inside is worth.

I like the idea of posting about what I will have left over, as long as I bring my laptop along.

It just seems to me that we trust each other enough to share these things, and it might be really cool to find a way to work out a pass it on kind of system.

Maybe it really isn't worth it financially, originally I just thought maybe you inventive people had already figured something out. And I hate throwing away so much.

We often do a grocery stop on the way in, as the car service offers it and we know how cost effective it is. We just always overestimate because of packaging. You buy 24 bottles of water, 12 sodas, the smallest laundry soap.
