Are you allowed to share the snorkel equipment and floats at CC if you buy 1 package (snorkel / floats / 1 hr bike ride)?

Do you mean can you purchase rental for one set of fins/snorkely/mas have other members of your family/group take turns using them...the answer is yes...obviously they will have to snorkel at different times, but DCL has no problem with this.

As far as bikes...do not know as we have never rented on CC but I can't see why it can't be done if you want to ride for 1/2 an hour and someone else in your group wants the other 1/2 hour on a 1 hour rental.

We often just buy one tube and/or float rental and share with the kids and they are never all in one place at one time.

We purchased the getaway package that included the snorkel equipment, floats, and bikes for our family (two adults, two kids).

SNORKEL
Being our kids (6 and 11) first time they were frustrated with how to use the equipment and as a result didn't get much use out of it. In hindsight we would have been better off getting the snorkeling gear at Costco before we left. They had a great set (that they no longer carry - seasonal) for about $35. Had we gotten this the kids would have had a chance to learn how to use it. I took about a half hour and swam out to the snorkeling area and was able to find fish and the sunken Mickey. I'm sure the kids would have really enjoyed the experience had they been able to use the equipment. Renting the equipment to share may be a problem as the fins provided are for specific sizes (mine were mens 8-10).

BIKE
Later in the day when it was "time" for the bike ride, my younger son and I were the only ones that ended up going. Overall, we found it to be fun. It was a little sandy in a couple of spots but my son could easily walk his bike the 50 feet or so to get to a more "rideable" area. I thought the bike ride would be around the entire island but found that the trail was from the family beach area to Serenity Bay and then down a unpaved path for about 3/4 mile (guess???) and then back. Disney provided a couple of rest areas with cold water along the unpaved section.

FLOATS
You could get either tubes of floats. We opted for two of each. I never used mine and my kids used theirs very little.

SUMMARY
In retrospect I wouldn't spend the money for the entire package. There's actually very little time on the island and if you have another activity planned (parasailing, etc.) it is difficult to get full use out of everything that's included. If you're going to snorkel, make sure the kids know how beforehand. Rental of a couple of tubes to share would have been fine.

So you can just bring your own snorkeling gear and life vests? I was hoping that you are able too because I am kind of a germophobe and was concerned with the cleanliness of the snorkels that go in your mouth!:D

I also read on another post that the life vests were leaky and didn't hold some people up- what was your experience with this LuvTravelToo? I am mainly concerned for my 5 year old, because I think that she would get tired after snorkeling for too long if the vest wasn't working properly.

I have gotten leaky life vests more than once. You'll be able to tell right away...put it on, go in the water, and see if air is coming out of the valves. If it is, select another one.
Besides buying your own snorkel gear, you can buy your own floats too. We buy cheapies (a buck or two) and bring them along. As an added benefit, no one steals them because we select brightly colored ones.

My 6-year old was the only one that inflated his and he didn't have any problems. Checking to make sure it works at the rental shack might be a good idea too (although you may not be able to detect a small leak).

My DH brought his own vest, but still had to put one of DCL's over his as his was a dark color. We bring our own snorkel equipment--is conformed to our faces (we mark whose is whose) and I know how it is cleaned!

I've heard about the leaky vests. But I also think some (not all) complaints might be a result of improper operation of the valve. I ran across a couple snorkelers in the water who said they were leaking and it turned out they did not "lock" the valve by screwing it down tight after inflation.

Thanks for all of the good replies!

Good idea Barb! I think that I will buy cheap floats too!

Ksjayhawks- was that Disney's rule that your husband wear one of their bright colored vests over his own?

Thanks for the info. wdwoldtimer and luvtraveltoo. Everyone is so helpful at these boards!
