Sharing Plates?

Was wondering if anyone shares plates at WDW restaurants? We are going to be staying at the Dolphin and plan on dining at Shula's, bluezoo, etc. and we are not on the DP, just paying in cash. Anyway, we have a 5 year old daughter and was wondering if both myself and my DH order an entree, will they let us share with her? As in bring an empty plate for her and she can share our entrees? Just wondering if that is allowed. Don't know how "fancy" these places are. We are planning on Shula's, Bluezoo, Garden Grove, Il Mulino's and Kimonos - all in Dolphin/Swan.

Also, off subject, anyone have any thoughts on dinner/late snack during the Mickey's Very Merry Xmas party in MK? It's our DD's b-day that day - we have a magical day planned - and this whole trip is one big surprise!! yeah! I cannot wait. It might be overload, but wondering if there's somewhere to eat there and maybe have a cake delivered??

Your thoughts are appreciated! Thank you!!

You'll be just fine sharing a meal with your DD. Personally, my youngest never eats much, so its what we do too.
As far as your special cake - You should check out the cake chatter thread. It may be on the 2nd page right now, but its an amazing thread!!! So many pictures of custom cakes, and some are outright awesome looking!!! Of course, awesome costs! :lmao: I have one ordered for our dinner at Sanaa, and a 6 inch cake is costing me $102. But its Disney, and its for my family, so its worth it :goodvibes

Have a great time!!!

I sincerely doubt you will want to waste party time at MK eating in a TS restaurant, which means there probably wouldn't be much of a way of having a cake delivered. You could book a lunch or early dinner and have one delivered.

Thank you so much for the info!! I really appreciate it!

And.....OH MY!...I took the advice on the Cake Chatter Thread....WOWSER! So much fun to look at...can't wait to plan something special.

Thanks to both of you for the great info! :thumbsup2

We had a party of 8 at Shula's, and a few of us (adults) split entrees. They didn't even blink. Brought the split entrees out on separate plates. I don't see a problem. These places are what I would call "upscale" but they are attuned to the casual, vacationing nature of their clientele. Both Shula's and BlueZoo had fabulous, memorable food! Garden Grove is more family-oriented. Il Mulino is upscale Italian that I am not sure your 5-yo will love. Same with Kimonos, which is Sushi.

You might consider the other Epcot area resorts right next door to the Swan and Dolphin. Beach Club comes to mind with Cape May Cafe, & Beaches and Cream. Yacht Club has Captain's Grille, Crew's Cup Lounge, & Yachtsman Steakhouse. Boardwalk Inn has Kouzzina (fabulous breakfast!), Big River Grille & Brewing Works, Flying Fish, & ESPN Club. You are in a great dining area! :)

Thank you, this is awesome info!!!!! Makes it even better knowing sharing plates won't be an issue. My DD loves sushi, so hopefully she'll enjoy that. ; ) Thanks for the tip on the Italian place. We are veterans of the Yacht Club - gonna miss my Stormalong Bay!, but we booked this vacay on a whim for a surprise bday and hopefully Dolphin will exceed our expectations for the trip. I agree with you - fantastic location in the Epcot area. Thank you so much for putting me at ease! I'm super excited!!!!:cheer2:

Garden Grove is a buffet - you won't be able to share there, you'll need to purchase the buffet for the child.

Other than buffets and prix fixe meals, sharing isn't a big problem (especially with no Dining Plan in play). My wife and I prefer the better full-service restaurants, but couldn't imagine fitting two full meals into our bodies each day, so we share entrees at both meals. Not a problem.

1) As many have already said, sharing is not a problem.
2) As long as you are not at a buffet or all-you-can-eat.
3) Florida is the home of "old folks".
4) And, us "seniors" share due to having small appetites.
5) Once in a while a place will have a "plate charge".
6) This can be $5-$15 for using extra plates.
7) But, most do not, especially tourist places.
8) In fact, many eateries actually will divide food for you.
9) So, share away!

What difference does it make if you are on the dining plan? And how can they refuse to let you share?:confused3 They can't insist that every person at the table order a meal, can they?

According to reports, if you are on the dining plan and ordering pizza at Via Napoli they will do just that. They won't allow sharing of an individual pizza, nor will they allow more than two people (spending 2 credits) to share a large or more than four (spending 4 credits) to share a 1/2 meter. Any extra people at the table have to order their own meals.

If you are not on the dining plan, the above doesn't apply. I also do not know if they will allow sharing of entrees other than pizza.

Also just wanted to give you a heads up on restaurant.com. They have discounted "certificates" for some of the Swan/Dolphin restaurants. They have some restrictions, so just make sure you check that part out. But you can buy a $25 certificate for as low as $2 sometimes!

I share just about every meal with my DD in Disney except her dessert. I has never been a problem. Some restaurants being an extra plate and some actually split the meal in the kitchen.
