Can you share plates if you're NOT on the dining plan (not at buffets, obviously)?

We were on the DDP when we last went, and it was way too much food. We like to take sit-down meals, but I just find some of the portions are huge, and we don't usually eat that much.

The 5 of us (including an 18 month-old baby) would probably get a couple of appetizers, 3 entrées, and 1 or 2 desserts.

Is that frowned upon at Disney? (We often do that when we go out to dinner at home...)

Thanks!

After a few times doing the DDP, during free dining, we also thought it was way too much food!! Last year, DH and I went on an "adults" only trip and did not purchase the DDP, and we did just what you are asking about. We would order an appetizer and 1 meal and split it. Sometimes we did desert to split. Not one restaurant had a problem with it.

For what it's worth, we are going next month, without the dining plan and plan on splitting meals again. It will be HOT and I know we will not eat that much!

Have a great time!

Sharing is only forbidden when there are guests who are and some who are not on the DDP, sharing together. If your whole party is on the plan or if nobody is on the plan it is fine. I see you are already aware of the exceptions (buffets, family style, etc). We have never had a problem sharing.

Of course you can! Order whatever you want. Disney restaurants are like any other, you are free to spit entrees or just have apps, whatever you want. You can share an entree when you are on the dining plan, too, but only if everyone at the table is on the dining plan together.

Last visit, we were not on the DDP. DH and I asked the server if we could share the steak sandwich at Le Cellier and it was served to us on two plates. We each had a half sandwich and some fries, and it was plenty of food!

You can definitely share.:thumbsup2 My DM, DD10, and I share meals at WDW whether on or off DDP.(Even at the Signature Restaurants) We have never had an issue with it. We pretty much dine the same way we do at WDW as we do at home-and we share at home a lot.

We always tip a little more than a standard percentage since we are sharing. :goodvibes
