Sharing Plates

Does anyone have any experience with sharing plates at any of the TS restaurants? I had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago, so I can only eat a small amount at a time. I know that some people get cards from their surgeon asking that restaurants allow them to order off the kids' menu, but I don't want to be limited to the lousy kids' choices. When dining out at home, I just take home a doggy bag and eat leftovers for a couple of days, but obviously that's not an option during the trip.

Ideally, my SO & I would share an entree, plus a salad or appetizer for my SO if the entree isn't enough. Another option would be to just order an appetizer for me, but some of the entrees choices sound so good, and I hate to miss out. counter service for every meal isn't really an option, because my SO likes at least one TS meal each day. Does anyone know what the policy is on sharing plates at the TS restaurants?

Thanks!

Disney's full-service TS restaurants are consistently very accommodating in this regard. Please do be sure to provide the servers gratuities based on serving two people, even if you're sharing meals -- i.e., based on how much two full meals would cost -- since they're still doing the work of serving two patrons.

Of course, this is limited to the full-service restaurants; standard practice at buffet restaurants is to charge every diner full price.

My DH and I aren't big eaters and share at Disney World all the time. Most of the time our meals are split in the kitchen and brought out on separate plates. No one ever acted like splitting a meal was a problem and our DS14 often orders off the kids menu as do some adults. I do always tip as if we'd ordered two entrees..:)

My pre-teen girls and I almost always shared an appetizer and 2 entrees and sometimes 1 dessert at TS. Never had any server object or even look like it mattered.

Let them know that you'll be sharing an entree and half the time they brought it to the table already on two plates.

I figured if any of them objected we'd just order another entree rather than have a scene or anything....but it was never an issue. In your case, if anyone ever had something to say, you should tell them why, after all it's a medical reason for you. Frankly though I don't think they really care.

Please do be sure to tip them according well.....while you aren't spending as much, they are still serving two of you. Just something to bear in mind at tip time.

My standard "warning" to anyone who asks this question. The meals are usually split in the kitchen. And most of the time, the side is a full portion. It's the actually entree that is split. So, if you order a steak with fries and want the steak split, more than likely, you are each going to get a full serving of fries.

My classic example is my son ordering a bowl of the cheddar cheese soup at LeCellier. I asked for three spoons so we could share. We were brought three 3/4 full bowls of soup. And charged for one.

We share almost every meal at Disney and they have been more than accomodating - and yes, give you a full size side almost always because they split it in the kitchen.

Awesome. I'm a small eater (under 5 feet and under 100 lbs) and I have a 3 year old. While my husband might not like the idea of sharing his food, it would be great to not to have to order for me and my DD3. Thanks!:thumbsup2

DS and I plan on sharing (well I plan on us sharing- he doesn't get a say lol) for a few meals that are being paid OOP instead of on DDP. I've never had any issue sharing meals with children or adults.
