My husband and I both had a version of gastric bypass last year. On the regular Dinning plan, can you share Table Service meals? We can only eat so much, but both are boys are good eaters and would cost us a pretty penny without the Dinning Plan. And how about counter service meals? Can they be shared?

Yes, most TS places will allow you to share a meal (assuming you mean use one TS credit to feed two people) as long as you are both on the same dining plan. You cannot share at buffets (e.g., Chef Mickey), all-you-care-to-eat/family style meals (e.g., 'Ohana), dinner shows (e.g., HDDR), fixed priced meals (e.g., CRT), dining packages (e.g., Fantasmic dining package), items that are designed "for two" (e.g., Parrillada at La Hacienda), or at Via Napoli. Same goes for Counter Service; you can share meals.

I've been able to share meals at many restaurants throughout WDW without any problems. Some restaurants will split the plate in the kitchen, others will bring you an extra plate.

I just got back from a trip last week. My 4 daughters and I were on the DDP and shared many meals, both table service and counter service. At 50s Prime Time we ordered 4 meals and added an onion ring appetizer....at Tony's Town Square we had 4 meals and 2 apps. And many counter service meals we shared 3 meals between us. There have been reports in the past of some restaurants being a little more difficult regarding this but we never had an issue.

Did you get a card with your surgery saying you had had a gastric surgery? When I had mine, I got a card explaining I couldn't eat as much due to a gastric surgery and that the restaurant should allow for half portions or allow me to eat a children's meal. I used the card at Disney and had no problems.

Just out of curiosity, when you used the gastric surgery card did you:
1) get half portions at full price?
2) get to order off of the children's menu?
3) get reduced pricing at buffets (e.g., being charged the child price)?

I ask because most folks (regardless of age) are allowed to order from the children's menu at TS restaurants. I haven't read of anyone getting half portions of adult meals at half price or of getting discounts at buffets recently. So I'm just curious which options you were given.

(Regarding the OP's situation, discount pricing probably won't be much of an issue/help because they're on the DDP.)

Adults can order from the children's menu (or share meals) almost anywhere at WDW if they prefer, without needing to have any sort of card, note or prescription.

One thing that the card won't get you is the child's price at a buffet or AYCE restaurant. Even if you have that kind of card you'll be paying the adult price with no discounts.

If the person is on the dining plan, like the OP is, having a gastric bypass card won't get an adult a child's dining plan. She and her husband will have the adult dining plan, regardless of the type of portions they generally eat.

The OP should note the policy at Via Napoli is no sharing credits. Each person on the dining plan must spend a credit. For example, you would not be able to order one individual pizza plus dessert for one credit and share that with your husband. You would have to spend a credit on your own entree.

Thank you all for your information. I will ask for a card for myself and my husband in case we need it. I'm looking at menus and deciding the best places for us. Since we eat a high protein diet, Via Napoli is not a choice. We can each consume about 3/4 cup of food per sitting. So research is a must for what we need!

The card will not have any effect for you since you are on the dining plan. You won't be able to get a child's dining plan.

You may be able to ask for smaller portions, but you'll be paying for them with adult dining credits.

I was able to get kid's price at the buffets. Since I don't do THAT much table service - I didn't try for half portions there.
