Sharing Meals Phone call ....

Indeed, and as long as you're okay with whatever the server is willing to offer you, you'll be fine. :thumbsup2

Right on. A friend of mine also just returned. She and her husband spent 5 nights, shared 10 TS meals. They each had 5 TS credits and that is exactly what they spent. However, they got more variety by eating them at 10 different TS restaurants, sharing one app, entree and dessert. :thumbsup2

How did they agree on what to eat?? DH and never order the same thing and it would put a damper on our vacation to have to haggle with him about what to order. Then there is the fact that DH is a big eater and I would most likely be stuck with just the vegetables and the garnishes! :smooth:

Hmmm, may be because there's a virtually infinite number of types of couples out there... some can't even agree on the room temperature while others have everything in common. Not everyone is a big eater and not everyone disagrees on what to eat if they have to share.

Just my two cents.

My husband and I always share!! Been married for 8 yrs. and guess we just like most of the same things.
Funny story, although not disney related. This winter we were at the mall and decided to split a Subway sub w/ chips & drink. while I got the food, he laid out the napkins, etc. When I got back to the table he took the food out and seperated it while i got out my bottle of purell, used it, and handed it to him....we both became hysterical....
we became one of the old couples at the mall :rotfl: (we're 35 & 41)

My mom and I share our meals out a lot. We have now used DDP twice (once paid for, once free) and are using it again in Sept. We will be sharing meals again and I'm sure it'll be handled the same as before-no problem. Oh, and sometimes I've shared with my DD6-also no problem. :goodvibes

Yes, I realize that all couples are different. There are certain foods that I love, like seafood, that DH while he doesn't hate, wouldn't want to order in a restaurant and the same goes for me. I realize that not everyone is a big eater-I'm not. However, you said not everyone disagrees when they HAVE to share. My point is why do you HAVE to share on the DDP?? I don't get it. You all get your own credits. Why can't someone order the snapper and someone order the steak? :confused3

We are planning to eat extra TS meals in Oct and we just plan to pay cash for them. No one HAS to share on the DDP. They may choose to for reasons I may not understand, but Disney is not forcing them to share an entree.

BTW, I'm not talking about sharing with a small child who is a tiny eater. I'm talking about 2 adults splitting a bowl of cheese soup and a 7 oz filet at Le Celliar-why aren't they allowed to order their own dinners if they have the DDP? Isn't that the point of having it? I can understand if they didn't have the DDP and were trying to save $$, but if you have it, why can't everyone eat? :confused3

So what do you do when you eat dinner at home? Does the cook make one meal for the entire family or is there a short-order cook who takes requests?

Completely OT, but you just reminded me of my Grandmother. She used to tell me and my sister "I'm not your personal chef. You will eat what I serve or you will starve"

DH and I shared on our one and only 'parent' trip. Not everytime, but if we weren't extra hungry. I remember eating at Rose and Crown. I had the appetizer as my 'meal', he had the plate (which I had a couple of tastes from), and we shared a dessert. Since some of these appetizers ARE so big, I can see us sharing on this trip, too. We rarely would order everything that is offered. BUT, that said, we will make the decision on that day, determined by how we are feeling, what we want to eat, how hungry we are, and what the CM says if we do choose to share. We are not going to stress over it. In fact, the only stressors are my 2 DD's who don't want to sit every day for any length of time! ;)

My gf and I are planning to do some sharing for a number of reasons--getting to try more restaurants, variety of food by getting extra appetizers, saving credits for signature places, both of us have stomach issues which prevent us from comfortably eating a lot, etc. One of my big reasons, though, is that I don't want the food that's offered at some of the restaurants we're going to. I'm a vegetarian and my gf is not. So of course she wants to go to Le Cellier and I'm happy to. But the one vegetarian entree on the menu doesn't sound appetizing to me. The salad and the tomato appetizer aren't really getting me excited either. So we plan for me to just order some mashed potatoes, maybe order my own appetizer if I'm in the mood, and have some of her dessert. Then I can use that TS credit I save to got to Boma where there are tons of vegetarian options.

Same is true of some of the signature dining places we're going to. I'm excited about the portobello soup, dessert, and atmosphere at Artist Point, but not the veggie entree (at Artist Point I might see if they can make me some other veggie entree, though I would feel bad asking for something special at every meat heavy place we went to), so I see no reason I should have to spend 2 TS credits to sit there and eat soup and dessert. (And, even if I did want a veggie entree, they're always the cheapest thing on the menu so they're just not a good use of 2 TS credits.)

In fact, potentially not being able to share is not in itself what bothers me (gf will mostly get meat anyway)--it's being told that in order to sit at the table with her I must use a credit that bothers me (and that message seems to be going hand in hand with the no sharing message).

i'm not asking to flame, but why do you need to share? i rarely eat anythign at all, but i don't care adn am not going to share with DH, we have different tastes. Yes food will go to waste...blah blah blah, but it's free, so i'm not going to try and get more out of it.

2nd this.

I see this as an opportunity to order many different things, and just munch off each others plates - trying new things. Stuff gets wasted? I dont care - i didnt pay for it.

All these thread are leaving me mind-boggled, truly.

Well, eating a home and eating out in a restaurant is hardly the same thing. In fact, I would guess that many people eat at restaurants so they don't have to cook and all eat the same thing. :teeth:

However, even when we cook at home we all get our own "portion" of something. DH and I don't SPLIT a chicken breast, a cup of broccoli, and a baked potato even if we are both eating the same fooods. :confused3 Honestly I do ususally make a couple different things anyway. Like I'll grill steak AND chicken. Some of family likes steak, some like chicken, DH might eat a piece of both. I'll make asparagus and broccolli because my son loves broccolli and we want asparagus that night. Sometimes if I make potaoes au gratin with stronger cheeses in it, I also make french fries for my kids. I don't think that's abnormal. :)

Going out to dinner on vacation (Disney or elsewhere) is a big part of our fun. We love trying new foods, wines, desserts. We spend weeks selecting the restaurants we plan to dine at. Part of what makes dining in a restaurant wonderful is reading the menu, listening to specials, selecting a cocktail or glass of wine. If DH and I had to sit at Flying Fish and discuss that I really want the peeky toe crab cakes as an appetizer and he really wants the mussels...so lets compromise and get something else...that's not much fun for us. We don't do that when we are paying cash for a meal, much less when we are on a pre-paided meal plan! If I told my family of 5 "okay, at this restaurant we are only going to order 3 dinners and split them so we can get extra TS meals with our credits" they would look at me like I was nuts!!! However, I realize every family is different. :sunny:

I can understand sharing or not using credits in your case (like at Le Celliar). I really can't imagine any CM giving you a problem about not ordering a meal. I think it's nice that you are willing to go to so many meat heavy places for your friend in the first place. :)

My mother used to say the same thing. :teeth:

Just got back from WDW trip and although my wife and I didn't share TS meals, we shared a lot of CS. No one gave us any problems. In fact, on the night of our last day, we used up four CS credits at the Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney and they could care less. Again, I don't know how sharing is viewed at TS restaurants, but the CS places were fine.

Hi! Not trying to butt-in here, but when you go to Le Cellier, try the Tomato Stack (I believe it's the appetizer you referenced). It really is good...I mean it's good eats (Alton would be proud...)
