i've heard many say that they have shared a meal...as a family of 8 our meals need to be budgeted as much as possible but we'd like to get in a few real sit-down meals. which restaurants have good sized portions that 2 adults could share?
any input would sure be appreciated!!
thanks!!

they(TS) do not permit sharing of 1 meal between 2 people......getting away with it is your choice to try or not.

What if you are not on the DP?

You can't share a meal???:confused3 That sounds odd. What do they care if you are paying out of pocket?

we're not on the ddp and i'm pretty sure i've read about couples doing this. a friend of mine did this as well at 1 or 2 places just recently and didn't mention any problems. :confused3
anyone else share any meals?

Yes. They. Do.

We did many many times and the CM's actually suggested it once because the portions are so huge.

bolo, good places are...

Sci Fi
Kona Cafe
50's Primetime
Rainforest Cafe

There's lots more but I can't remember now.

ALL the CS places are great for sharing as well! Have fun!

We shared meals at Sci-Fi last year. Had no problems. The server halved a hamburger on two plates for us and didn't charge us extra. We weren't on the dining plan. We ordered an appetizer that was shared among the 5 of us, and 2 of us shared an entree there, it was plenty for me.

As mentioned CS meals can easily be shared.

For a good TS meal you might be better served by choosing an inexpensive buffet or all you care to eat. Splitting just an entree at the places listed by PP going to be about $8-10pp and you'll get far less food than at these places:

Whisperig Canyon Cafe Skillet: $10.99A/6.49 Breakfast

Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club: $15.99/8.99 Breakfast

Trails End Buffet for any meal ($11:99/7.99B, $12.99/8.99L, $17.99/9.99D)

If you have a valid military ID in the group the buffet at Shades of Green could be really cheap.

thats weird because i remember 2x i was asked not the share a meal but it was a couple years ago now....one was le cellier cant remember other. i think at the buffets they charge you for amount of people at table.

Exactly, my suggestion is to just pay for a full buffet/all you care to eat for everyone rather than split TS meals. If you pick the right one the cost is not that different, but everyone can get plenty to eat.

Splitting a burger and fries at Sci Fi will be $8pp, including a drink for one of what is likely 3 meals for the day. Spend $11pp get more food and the fun of WCC for what is likely one of 2 meals for the day. OP knows their family and can decide what makes sense. Just wanted to point out that sharing isn't the only TS option.

DH and I have shared meals at nearly every TS in WDW. I've never been asked not to share, but we also do not do any sort of dining plan.

To a PP poster, most people share because they don't want a bunch of food. I know, personally, when we shared it wasn't involving cost. We just didn't want to walk out of there overly full and with tummy aches. :)

Sure they do. You can't share at buffets or family-style places but other places will be fine.

my friend and I split the hazelnut chicken at the big river grille (at the bw) and it was more than enough food. I wish I had split the plaza club with someone at the plaza restaurant at the mk. it was HUGE and I could only eat half of it, and even that was more than I should have had but it was soooo good, it was worth the full stomach.

I get that, however OP is doing this for budgetary reasons.

DH and I have done this at almost every TS and CS at WDW because we prefer to eat smaller meals and eat more often. Of course you can't "split" at the buffets but at every TS rest. the meal was split for us in the kitchen and the server was always OK with us sharing. I always tip as is if we both ordered a meal. I have read reviews of people on the dining plan who also spit meals with no problems. If you are hearty eaters and need to save money I would recommend going mostly CS or having your main meal in the early afternoon when lunch prices are still charged.

MOST menu-based restaurants at Disney will allow you to share meals. Just ASK before ordering (in case you happen to find yourself at the rare one that says no).

And, please remember to tip your server as Wenda does, above (as if each diner was ordering a meal).
