Sharing meals at TS restaurants looked down upon?

From what I have been reading, the portion sizes are huge at DW. I was considering buying the VKL lunch vouchers and sharing between my husband and myself since 1 certificate buys 1 appetizer, 1 entree, 1 non-alcoholic beverage, and 1 dessert. I'm sure that would be more than enough food for the 2 of us and looks like it would make a good bargain at restaurants like Kona Cafe and Alfredo's.

But I am a little embarrassed about asking about sharing. Do you do it?

Also I was considering letting my kids share a kid's meal too. My DS is 6 and a light eater and my DD 2 generally like the same foods. I'm pretty sure that we are not required to buy a meal for the 2 yr old and she can share off all our plates, but if anyone else has some suggestions I would love to hear them.

This trip is adding up quick.

Thanks.

You are right about the $$$$$ adding up very quickly.

I guess I'm really tired (it's after midnight but I can't sleep), but I can't figure out what TS means and I don't know what a VKL voucher is.

I don't think it would be a big deal for the kids to share a meal. I'm not so sure about the adults. Maybe you could share the appetizer and dessert, but order separate entrees.

Many, many, many people share meals at WDW at the Table Service restaurants. You just can't do it at buffets.

We share many meals. It's just way too much food. Share and save the money.

What could there be to be embarrassed about? Remember, you are purchasing food from the restaurant, who consumes it at your table isn't your waiter's concern (except for buffets, where you are purchasing the right for one person to eat as much as desired from the selection offered). Share whatever you want!

Thanks for that. I won't feel so bad. I would hate to shell out all that money and end up wasting a lot of food afterall.

Me, DH and DD 15 and DD 10 and all going to be on the dining plan. The little ones DD 7, DD4 and DS 2 will be sharing our food. They are not on the dining plan so we plan on sharing the 4 "adult" entrees, appetizer and desserts with the 3 little ones. Otherwise I think it will be to much food. We have shared before and it has never been a problem. :wave2:

VKL vouchers are no longer widely available (since January 2005). Dealpass (connections, hotwire savings club) no longer sells them. I believe you may still be able to get them from Disney Group Sales if you are eligible to do so.

If planning on buying these off Ebay be careful on what you pay. I've seen some go for more than they are worth. Make sure you know where you can use them. On the Q&C vouchers someone is trying to sell them for $36 each and the only places those are good at is CS, Pepper Market, and Beaches & Cream. Not worth $36 each.
You might consider looking up the menus at Allearsnet.com to see if they are worth the money.

Good Luck

we share a lot of times at any res. we go to and WDW was no exception...no one thought it was strange or at least i never got the impression they did. i guess i would be more embarassed/disgusted to have to throw away 1/2 my meal! we just say we are going to share blah blah blah, since we usually get an app.too when we share, it isn't a big deal. and we always leave a 20% tip

to bad the vkl have gone by the wayside ...they were a good deal

IMHO a 20% tip is no big deal--that's the norm. We haven't found the portions to be huge at most TS placces, they are rather average. Generally not enough for two adults to share, even with an appetizer and dessert.

That said, sometimes we just aren't that hungry, adn will split an entree. WHen we do so, we figure the tip based on our check, plus add on an additional entree. The server is dong the same amount of work that they would for two entrees, but only being tipped for one otherwise.

We share all of the time. In the summer it is just too hot to eat all that much at one sitting, yet we want to taste a bit of this and a bit of that. We have almost always ended up with our food preplated on two plates when sharing an entree which is a plus! I go with a semi version of Ducklites version of tipping: 20 percent and a few dollars more.

Have you considered the dining plan? It would be only $80.00 a day. Which is less than 1 ts meal would cost by itself

Thanks for the warnings from those who posted about the VKL vouchers and those being sold on eBay. We are going with a group and have access to the vouchers through group sales. Since we already have a good room rate, we are not eligible to prticipate with the dining plan. Maybe next time around.

I was mainly planning on letting the kids share and for my DH and I to share a couple of lunches to keep the costs down. After reading so much about the restaurants, I would really like to try so many but trying to find ways of not spending $60 or more for lunch.

On another note, now I am trying to fit in a Boma dinner into our itinerary. Are there enough basics in the buffet to satisfy two little eaters who do not have exotic tastes? If anyone can share their experiences, I would like to hear them.

Thanks again to all who posted.

Loved Boma's. Can't wait to get back. Had a very picky eater and this one was one of her favorite places to eat.

Yes, Boma has a wide selection and the typicap disney kiddie buffet section as well (chicken fingers, etc.)
