I figured I wasn't the only one wondering about this, so I did some investigating and posted what I found here .
For our family, we can't be guaranteed gluten free or dairy free, as the filter options specify milk free and wheat free, but this system does look like it would be helpful for many people and it is nice to have an idea of what options may work in advance. I hope it helps!

I wasn't comfortable pre-ordering even though I only have two of the top 8 so we did the same screen there. Also, I've still heard even recently that the pre-order doesn't always go through anyway. With allergies, who needs the extra confusion? If people could go through the menus and then back out, that might help with planning choices. Thanks for posting what it looks like!

I asked to see the chef and did not pre-order. felt safer that way

Most of my allergies aren't in the top 8 so I did not preorder. It didn't take long to get a chef to the podium and he was great. He was more than happy to modify what I really wanted to try but didn't think would be possible!

I am curious if they still bring the chef out if you have pre ordered and marked your very specific allergy or if that is good enough. If that was truly all that you had as allergy (what you specified on the filter) and it was clearly flagged and part of their system, that would be nice to avoid the extra wait and time involved. Of course, I could see where they would still send a chef to table to make sure and be on safe side anytime they see those flagged orders come in. I think I'm going to try it and see, so I can report back on my experience. I have already researched that what I am ordering is naturally free of my allergen, so I feel safe, regardless, but I am curious how the process will play out.

When we were there a year ago we did not have to talk to the chef The person at check in asked if we wanted to, but since we were comfortable with our preorder we could just go sit. One of the reasons our family loved it as a QS.

Simba, I bet! That would cut 15 stressful minutes out of a CS situation. I don't mind doing it, and I appreciate that they are willing to work with our allergies (very much), but I always feel so awkward and in the way standing at the counter for 10 minutes or more while people are trying to go in and out around me in droves. Cutting that out of the equation sounds pretty sweet!
