Sharing Entrees Worked Great for Us!

I'm glad to hear that there are no problems splitting meals but sad to hear that some of the servers treat the guests differently after you tell them you're sharing. My husband recently had weight loss surgery and eats a very small amount of food so we tend to share at most places or he has a lot of leftovers. We are on the dining plan so we have a lot of tables services planned where we will order a started and an entree.

I'm hoping our experiences are unusual and you have great service and great food! Enjoy your trip!

FWIW - We did not notice any decline in service whatsoever when ordering only one entree to share. In fact. we had great service everywhere we ate this trip! :goodvibes

Is the portion size for entrees generally big enough for sharing?

LAX
Depends..a little preplanning and looking at reviews perhaps. We plan to try more sharing next trip. Our best Share was Sanaa!
We got the full bread service and one order of Butter chicken. Perfect for two big eaters!

My family are not big eaters (2 adults, 2 teenagers) and we found we could've shared meals at most restaurants except when we ate at 50s Prime Time. We actually shared that meal and we could've each ate an entree. But we did order milkshakes and a couple desserts so that ended up satisfying us.

Quick question - we are on the DDP and just assumed we couldn't split meals at TS - especially wondering about Sci Fi - that is just too much food. Would we have the option there and do we just tell the server we are sharing a meal?

You can split at any restaurant as long as it isnt a buffet or character meal. My husband and I are just not big eaters and routinely split an entree or a couple of appetizers. We have always done this-DDP or OOP and havent ever gotten crappy service because of this. We did it at Yachtsman steakhouse just a couple of weeks ago. When you order, just order one meal and tell the server then. You dont need special permission! :) You are on vacation and can eat however you want!!

I think my husband and I will be splitting meals from now on too- it's just too much food if you want to experience a lot of sit down places!

I haven't seen this. Our servers have been fine about sharing, which we do on occasion. At Beaches and Cream we split a burger since we wanted dessert, and they split it for us in the kitchen and gave us a regular serving of fries each.

Sometimes the kitchen divided it for us, and a few times just brought an extra plate, but it was never an issue. I tipped on the high side to compensate for ordering less, but that's just me. Not one server even batted an eye.

1) MrsRustyScupper ALWAYS splits an entrée with me.
2) NEVER a problem.
3) However, we only tip per-the-check, and not extra amount - unless the service was super-super.
4) Not a problem.
5) Glad it also worked for you!

At most TS restaurant where you order from a menu you will be able to share whether you are using DDP credits or paying out of pocket. You will be fine at Sci Fi. The only TS restaurant that consistently will not let you use one credit to feed two or more people is Via Napoli. Also at VN if you want to order pizza using a credit you can only order the Individual size; you cannot combine credits for the larger pizza. There was one post that Tutto Italia (owned by the same third party company as VN) also would not allow using one credit for 2 people.

We share at many restaurants so we just let the server know. At some places they will plate it in the kitchen and at others the server brought an extra plate and we divided it ourselves.

You cannot share and everyone ages 3 and older will be charged a credit or pay OOP at buffets (e.g. Crystal Palace, biergarten), all you care to eat family style meals (e.g. 'Ohana, Garden Grill), the 3 dinner shows (Hoop De Doo, Spirit of Aloha Luau, Mickey's Backyard Barbecue), fixed price meals (e.g. CRT, Akershus), Candlelight and Fantasmic Dining Packages, special events (e.g. fireworks dessert parties, F&W special dinners & events), and the Family Platter at Whispering Canyon Cafe.
