I've had some requests for directions on how to make this style shirt, so here goes:
Start with a white T shirt
Use contact paper (any color or pattern, doesn't matter) to cut out the Mickey Heads. We had a small scrapbook punch for the smaller heads featured on the shirts. We just traced the big head from another shirt we already had. I think some of the real Dis designers offer the Mickey Head silhouette in their posts.
Peel the backing off of the contact paper and place the contact paper head shapes all over the shirt. Just remember that anyplace you place the contact paper, the dye won't stick - so it will be a white image.
Burnish the edges of each contact paper head to make sure the edges are stuck down well. We used an old credit card.
Hang the shirt on a hanger and take it outside.
We used Dylon Fabric dye, putting each dye color in a separate spray bottle. We poured the dye and water directly into the old spray bottles and shook them up.
Here is a tip I wish we knew before we did our shirts Label each bottle with color of the dye - liquid dye colors can be hard to ell apart. Liquid red looks just like pink!
Spray each shirt with the various bottles of dye. Try to avoid spraying the dye on the large contact Mickey head, it just runs off the vinyl, creating blobs of dye along the bottom of the image when dry. We sprayed the front and back of the shirts, but we just placed the heads on the front.
Allow to dry 24 hours.
Rinse, rinse, rinse the shirts to remove any excess dye. The contact paper Mickey heads will come off in the rinse. Some of the strongest color dye may bleed a bit onto the Mickey heads in the rinse. If this is unwelcome, a Clorox bleach pen can remove the excess color from the heads.
Heat set the shirts by either tossing in dryer 30 minutes, hanging in full sun for a few hours or ironing.
I've made this sound much harder than it actually was. It was even sorta fun, if a little messy - wear rubber gloves!
