Sharing DDP???

My parents and sister are taking a trip with my family (husband, 6 and 3yr old) in Oct. We have two separate rooms reserved onsite and both currently have DDP. It seems like with the deluxe plan, having appetizer, main, and dessert, there will be a lot of food. I am wondering if my parents decide to not take the plan, will the restaurants not offering buffet allow my parents to "share" our meals from the DDP - purchasing their own drinks of course.

We've used the DDP 3 times now, Jan 06, Sept. 06, Sept. 07 (1st time paid for, 2 times free) and we (my DM and I or my DD and myself) have shared many TS meals without a problem. As you said, with appies, entree, and dessert, it's a lot of food and we found that when we didn't share we ended up taking our dessert to go since we didn't have room to eat it. That severally limited our selection of desserts :rotfl2: Even with the changes to the regular DDP (no appies) we still plan on sharing this Sept.

Oh, and last Sept. we even shared 3 adult meals between 4 adults (Dsis and DNiece made that trip)at Narcoossee's (2 TS). The waitress didn't even blink when we told her we were sharing. And yes, we tipped additional for any meals where we shared, just like we do at home.

And of course, it goes without saying that you can share CS as well-we did that many times too!

Hope this helps. :goodvibes

It sounds like the OP is asking if she can use her credits to order meals for diners not on the plan. This is not allowed under the plan. If you all order something and want to share that of course is allowed.

Actually I was planning on just sharing whatever dish we ordered so this sounds like an idea for us. Thanks for the tips!

No you will not be able to share.

Why not? It seems like others have shared with no problem. Besides, how are they going to stop you. One person has a drink and perhaps a salad, the other has a full three course meal. The one with the small meal uses a fork to share the food from the large meal. What are they going to do about it? Throw the old lady out? Hardly the Disney way!

That should be fine. But, keep in mind that if your sister is staying in their room and not yours, if they don't get the DDP, then she can't either. All those staying in the same room must be on the same plan (or not).

and this is specifically addressed although not with absolute clarity:

Can I share meals on the Dining Plan?
Sharing is never permitted at buffet or prix fixe meals. Beyond that, this is actually two separate questions, addressed below...

Can I share meals with guests not on the Dining Plan?
No. The Dining Plan cannot be shared with guests who aren't registered as part of your hotel reservation.

Can I share meals with other guests on the Dining Plan staying on the same hotel reservation?
There is no clear answer to this. Consistently, guests seem to be allowed to share the meals ordered on the Dining Plan amongst the guests at their table, with the exception of fixed price meals, such as buffets or other all-you-can-eat options. However, this question was been asked directly to Disney via email, by a number of guests, and consistently, they have answered this question by saying specifically that, "sharing is not permitted." Despite several attempts to get clarification about that statement, no clarification appears to be forthcoming from Guest Communications, and nothing official has been released by Disney Dining to resolve the confusion. Ask your server.

while it may be against the "rules"...ppl do it all the time!

doesn't make it right...doesn't make it wrong IMO...

I think I have heard of some ppl being charged a plate charge when sharing...so you might want to prepare for that.

This is a not allowed on the DDP and clearly stated in the plan brochure and in the FAQs on the brochure. Think of the DP as a contract between you and Disney for food. If you didn't buy the plan you don't get to eat the food.

OP is talking about esentially carrying her parents on her DP credits for the length of her stay. That is pretty clearly not a good plan and not even on the edge of the rules. Most importantly it isn't a good plan for a relaxing or fun vacation. I think OP isn't so much trying to circumvent the system, but save some money and not waste food. In this case however good intended OP is, it just isn't part of the "deal" with Disney.

I understood what the OP was saying...
Like I said While it is against the "rules" ppl do it all the time. I think the plate charge is perhaps Disney's way of saying they are going to get their share regardless...but just my opinion!

we weren't charged a plate fee, but that was 2 free dinings ago ;)

Isn’t the real question: can I cheat Disney by paying just one plan and eating with two people from the same plan?

Actually, it doesn't make it impossible. It does make it wrong.

Members of your group who have all purchased the DDP can share items at the table among yourselves, but as others have said, you can't purchase the DDP and share with other people not on the plan -- that's spelled out very clearly in the brochure.

Sounds like you feel the deluxe plan has too much food -- that's true for a lot of families. Why don't you and your parents just each purchase the basic plan? It's only 37.99 per adult per night vs 69.99 per adult per night. It includes a TS meal, a CS meal, and one snack for every night of your stay. If you wanted an extra TS meal or two, or wanted an occasional appetizer, you could just pay OOP.

So, here's another question. What is your opinion? We have 4 people staying in our room and only want to purchase 2 dining plans. For instance, each dining plan will have 6 meals, therefore each couple will have 6 CS, 6TS, etc to "share".

What we hope to have happen is we go to dinner, present 1 room card, and have them take 2 credits off for that meal - 1 credit for me, one for my spouse.

Does that work? I've heard they are now checking IDs at restaurants? If so, this would not work, since my spouse couldn't provide 1 room key to use the points to cover both of our meals?

I know this is against the rules, but Disney is very $$, we are just looking for some way to save a little money. I just want to know if this option is feasible or not - if anyone has had success doing it?

Thanks.

This is not permitted. As stated above, EVERYONE in the your room MUST be on the same package. You can't pick and choose the components.

Only if your children are under the age of 3 can they share. Otherwise Disney will require that you purchase a DDP for all in your room.
