Sharing College Info

It's been awhile since anyone posted to this thread.

I'm assuming everyone has made a decision (for better or worse) and within the next week or so (if it hasn't happened already) the actual High School Graduation will happen.

Has anyone started shopping for dorm stuff yet? I've been looking but am waiting till the 14th of July when we have official orintation and hopefully meet his roommates or at least hear from them to see what everyone is bringing.

Not yet. We are waiting until we hear which dorm he has been assigned to. Depending on the dorm, some of the beds are longer than normal. Orientation is in a little over a week so hopefully he'll hear then.

DS graduates June 10 and has orientation June 19-20. He will be going to where DD is a junior so he will get her hand me down fridge as she is in an apartment. Haven't started on the rest of the stuff.

DD graduated on May 13th. Since then, we purchased towels and a bedspread for her dorm room. We've started a list of things we think she will need. I'm not sure how I'm going to get all this stuff there, but I'll worry about that when it gets closer.

We head to FSU for her orientation in about a week.

I bought some monogrammed towels, blanket & underbed storage bins, but that's it. We're also waiting to meet her roommate to decide what else to buy. We graduated Thurs night and it has been an emotional week. :sad1:

We also have to wait to see which dorm he's in to buy sheets, one of the dorms has normal size twins and the others have extra long. My son has never "decorated" his bedroom at home (other than a Yankees poster) and he's perfectly happy with plain sheets on the bed, so I think it'll be easy shopping :) . He won't find out who his roomate(s) is/are (some rooms are suites) till August, but it's not a big deal, the school provides refrigerators and microwaves, and we have a TV and DVD player he can bring along if he wants to.

He doesn't graduate till June 22, in fact they haven't even had the prom yet (it's Thursday.) Hopefully orientation will be the last week of June so we'll know more then (there are also dates in July but we asked for June.)

I admit I'm starting to get a little emotional about all this, and I really didn't think I would!

DS won't hear about his roommate until early to mid-August. But, because of marching band, he leaves for college a week early. Dd, who was in the same situation, didn't hear from her roommmate until she was already on campus.

Those of you who have already been through this once, what kind of dishes, cups, etc did you send with your child? Or did you?

I'll be honest, I never even thought about dishes and such. That's a good question.

I'm thinking a trip to Costco to get big packs of paper plates & cups. I don't see my son doing the dishes often :rotfl: .

What I can't wait to see is how he handles the laundry. Mr. I can't wear anything longer then 30 minutes

Food, will be eaten out of the box (with fingers) :rotfl2:

Last year DD took some plastic dishes and cups we had around here. She said she just wants disposable stuff for next year.
