What are the pro's to sharing a photo pass?

How is it is "shared"

Just wondering more about it as I have heard about "shared" photo passes here on the DIS boards.

What is your thoughts/comments about this.
I am not sure I want to 'share' but want to weigh my options

I guess I am as close to expert as you may get. I am the team leader for 3 photo shares.

It is a share program set up usually on the budget board. There is a post for almost each month. People state when they are going to Disney an entire post leader assigns them to a group.

Then a team leader (me) contacts the members in the group and they are told the final price and terms and conditions. It usually runs about $20. Once you are paid your team leader will tell you the log in information to upload your photopass and the date.

The photopass is professional photographers in the park that take pictures of your entire family, kids, etc. Some rides have photopass also. You are given a card with your first photo and you use that your entire trip. All the people in your group are also getting photos taken on their card.

Timing is everything as a group can be almost a month apart. Photopass starts the minute the first person uploads. You have 30 days from the 1st upload to complete all uploads.

Once everyone is uploaded and edited, your team leader will get the CD's. She will then burn copies and mail them to each member! It is a $125 deal shared with several folks to bring the price down to affordable for us working class folks.

I have an opening in my late Sept early Oct group. Let me know if you would like to join us.

PM me with any other questions, April

I always have my digital camera, but next trip I think I may try this. Seems like a good idea.

I would still bring your camera. I only had about 20 photopasses taken. I just never could find them, or they were really busy when I did, but I took 400 of my own on my digital camera.
It's nice to have both.

How many pictures will Disney allow you for that price? If I do purchase the CD from Disney can I go to say Sam's club and get them print without copyright problems. We are going as a grand gathering and I'm hoping I can order for the 5 families going and we can share the cost.
Thanks for sharing this info with me!

Does that mean that if I'm in a group of, let's say 5 people sharing, the completed CD sent to me will have all their photos on it too?

yes, that is correct from my understanding.

Then you download your pictures to your computer and you can make your own copy of just yours as well. You also get a release from what I know... so you can print your pictures without a problem.

The only thing is that yes, your pictures are on the CD for the other families to see as well but remember these are only the ones that are taken in the parks or where there are the CM taking the pics... it shouldn't be too personal I would assume so it shouldn't be an issue.
But you do need to be aware of it.

I was wondering, is it 'legal' to copy the original CD? Does it say on the CD that you can copy it or not copy it?

Yes, it is illegal:

Tacomaranch>> I could have sworn I read a post recently where you were going to move into subsidized housing with your autistic son. I read it with interest since I have two autistic students in my classroom. I must have missed your signature with your numerous trips - or am I getting you mixed up with someone else?

:confused3 so my pics are put onto this CD right? Why? what is purpose? why do ineed so many pics? And what do I do with this CD with allmy pics on it? don;t i get my pass when i get to Disney?
Im really confused? someone help this NOOB:confused3

Thanks. I'm a newbie and had heard of Photopass but wasn't quite sure what it meant. That was a great website.

The way I read it..It is NOT illegal. It says the owner can make duplicates of the CD. You jsut can't sell them No one is selling them, they are only each paying a portion of the price. The yare basically chipping in to buy one. But once bought you can make copies as long as you don't sell the copies for a fee.

I think you could make a case for you are selling a cd of the images. The first person paid for the cd and is selling pics on it to the rest of the people.

Instead of copying the CD, how about you copy it to your PC and ship the original CD to the next family. Or even take it to the store and print out your pics and ship it off.

I can see how "Sharing" a CD would be frowned upon but it's doubtful they'd sick the dogs on you.

We are on the same page! I totally agree with what you said..

Not at all. This is no different than a a family chipping in to buy one CD. There is no profit being made here. Just people chipping in to buy one CD. And it says once you own it you can make copies. Just can't sell them. And no "selling" is going on. No profit is being made.

I second that!
