is it possible to share an ap ? when you get one does disney put your name and picture on it? and does anyone look at it when you use it or do they just scan it when you go thru the turnstyls?
has anyone tried this?

Impossible. You have to use the biometric scanner when you put the pass through the machine. Only one person can get in on the pass at a time and the biometrics will not match. If the biometrics don't match, they will ask for an picture ID. You have to show an ID when you get the voucher activated. If the picture ID doesn't match, there's a good chance the pass will be confiscated.

Part of the verbiage on the pass states: "The Walt Disney World Co. reserves the right to revoke this pass if it is presented by anyone other than the passholder of record ..."

:earsboy:

Well, even if it were possible, I would really hope no one on the DIS boards would consider doing this, so I'll presume you just asked out of general curiosity.

You need to do a finger scan and they often ask for a photo id. If someone besides the passholder tries to use it, you may lose the pass for good.

Three words : Don't Try It.

biometric scanning aside...I never understood why disney didn't produce AP's that look like a license. (with your picture and info right on it)

My hubby paid almost a grand for 2 AP's and all we got is this flimsy piece of paper?

I havent ever had a WDW AP- but my DL AP last year was a thicker plastic with photo and name (and wording that scraped off very easily)- this year is a flimsy plastic with photo and name but a picture that doesnt come of- go figure--

yes I think its silly for paper APs- Mine gets destroyed as is-

I also join the group that its not worth trying to share an AP- It really isnt THAT much money if you use it alot- and if you dont- there are cheaper alternitives-

They used to have your picture on it, but, this is much faster and definitely more reliable.

It is not flimsy paper, it is mylar and it is very tough.

Actually, Tyvek; the same thing those unopenable mailing envelopes are made of.

Isn't one of the reasons they use the current form
of the AP is so that it will work in the FASTPASS
machines??

Thinking back, it seems like a plastic, "license" type
pass wouldn't work in the machines.

The plastic room keys work in the fast pass machines, so there is definitely a stronger material they can use for the annual passes.

BINGO!

Why can't the AP's be made of the same material as room keys?
I've seen cast memeber cards - they are silver with "Disney' written on them...in the same hard-type plastic that the room keys are made of.

I dunno...I just think that if you are paying THAT much money for a AP/PAP, you should get something that looks a little bit more "substancial" than what we are currently giving.

if you get your room key wet - no big deal - but i fear of getting this PAP wet.

The 'paper' is almost indestructible, actually not paper, as mentioned above.

No, you cannot share an AP. There are no pictures on the APs, now, and they scan your fingers with each entry, so if your fingers don't match, you are asked for a picture ID. Sorry, but thems the rules!

As for why APs aren't made from the same material as the room keys. The ticketing system in the parks is only set up to print the "paper" type tickets, it will not accomodate the hard plastic.

If you need a new Ap, stop by Guest Relations while in the park and they will issue you a new one, free of charge. Another perk of that "paper" type, they can be reissued without charge to the guest.

If it were not for the door locks at the hotels, which require a hard card, I suspect that all passes would be made from thin tyvek or plastic; b/c it is immensely cheaper, both in terms of buying and shipping the stock, and in terms of the equipment used to print the things. Hard cards require a printer-feed mechanism; 14-mil can be done on an ordinary roll-platen printer.

Tyvek and the 14-mil plastic cards (the sort you buy at TDS) are actually MORE durable than hard plastic cards, b/c they do not become brittle when subjected to temperature extremes. I do a lot of work w/ public library systems, and our experience is that provided it is waterproof, the more flexible the material is, the more durable it is.

A few years ago the ap had your picture on it. I remember standing in line for a long time to get the picture taken, then waiting to have it processed. It was not very efficient. This is much quicker.:wave2:

Maybe we just got extremely lucky on our trip but my dh has problems with finger scan and cm's very soldem asked him for picture id. granted it was only 1 finger that won't read but still.

The scan almost never works for me, either. They check my id approximately 30% of the time.
