Im new to all this so excuse me if I sound a little dumb. I understand the share price is at all all time high and it is a bit of a silly time to be buying shares but I was wondering whether it is worth it to buy 5 shares through Halifax for a trip in June. There will be 4 of us (and a baby) buying an annual pass. We already have accomodation etc so it would just be used to save on restaurants and souveniers etc. Is it worth it? And would they come in time for our trip in 3 weeks 5 days or am I being foolishly optimistic?

Thanks

PS Have a great trip Jonathon!!! :-)

If you have 4 annual passes to buy, your shareholders club discount would give you 15% discount on each of those annual passes. Your annual passes will give more or less a similar discount on shopping and restaurant bills, and if you're on a budget, really the only advantage in buying 5 shares is for the annual pass 15% off. Your 5 shares plus Halifax buying fee plus shareholders admin fee would be around 97 euros total - would you save that much on 15% off each annual pass you want to buy?

ps I moved your post onto a new thread as you're more likely to get specific answers this way.

Thankyou

It really does take more consideration that I realised... I had been thinking of investing in shares for some time as I actually work in finance (more pensions) and always wanted to invest in this way. Now I understand of course you should consider a variety of shares and invest in which you think would give the greater return BUT how exciting is it to invest in DLP!!! I know its silly but even the thought of owning a small percentage (in my OH's view a bricks worth) of DLP and adding to the investment each year for my children when they are older seems good.

I like the thought of the Salon Mickey too. We have breakfast included in the hotel and if we have the coffee and cake here just before lunch then we may get away with one meal at tea time.

Im still doubting that I would get the shareholders pass in time but Im thinking its worth giving this ago, its much more fun that having money sat in a savings account and even though Iv not yet been this Disney bug seems to be taken over.

Thanks for the advice

Can't you buy the shares, apply for the card and then sell them as soon as you get your card?

That way you'll only lose a few euro's for the broker fees.

Thankyou, Iv taken the plunge and bought the basic 5 shares, even if I dont become a member in time for our trip ( we leave UK on 2nd June)... At the end of the day its an investment for my children and even though prices are high in 11-18 years time they will hopeully be worth something more.

We were planning on getting an annual pass anyway so were hoping to visit at least one or two more times in the next 12 months!

Thanks everyone!

When you send off your application to the Shareholders Club mention the date of your trip and they should send you a temporary certificate.

Hi
We became shareholders last year and it was sorted within about 2 weeks. If you fax the form to DLP it speeds things up and we received our card within a week.
It gave us a good discount on the annual passes, daily visits to Salon Mickey which saves buying snacks/drinks and we used the 10% discount in all Disney stores a couple of times. At the end of the day we can sell our shares too and in the meantime have definitely benefitted financially from becoming shareholders in the savings we have made.

I wouldn't rely on them becoming an investment, it is only recently they have gained in price. I know you never know what is going to happen. I would be very surprised if Disney ever pay a dividend on the shares. Having said that the club membership is worth it & personally the only reason I have the shares:thumbsup2
