A man goes out for an early morning run. Empty walks and mostly deserted streets. However, as he starts to cross one intersection, at the halfway point he becomes aware of a car rapidly bearing down on him. He freezes for a moment and the car is even closer. He starts to step back to the walk he just left but the driver apparently was also trying to dodge him and has steered in the very direction he's retreating. So he reverses course and quickly begins to move to finish crossing the street. However, the driver has now also changed directions and is still bearing down on him!
At the last possible moment, in an act of desperation, he lunges for the safety of the sidewalk, where he lands, bent over with the adrenaline surge, gasping for breath and trying to recover his wits. At the same time there is a screech of tires and the car brakes to a stop.
The runner looks up to see a small hand and arm rapidly cranking the window down. And the driver-squirrel sticks out his head and says, "Ain't as easy as it looks, is it?!"
So . . . whatever has made today a hard day, nothing is ever as easy as it looks to others. Hang in there!
