what great thread to "wake up too" this morning
Grabbed my coffee and thought I would sneak a peak at the boards for just a minute ......... instead I am sitting with "memories" zipping through my mind - agree with IMALOVNDISNEY - hearing and imagining your "family" traditions brings on those "warm fuzzies" - our recent pastor's sermon series is "simple wealth" - I do believe this thread fits that definitition!
- jammies are top of the list -a Thanksgiving gift to our DGD's each year - figure they can wear them the month leading up to Christmas and maybe think of grammy & pawpaw once or twice
One year all the guys received, and now it is expected they wear holiday ones, too AND Christmas Day is one day that I declared a very long time ago, as "jammie" day - shower later in the day and don another pair of jammies! I believe I started that one claiming my own day of "r & r"!
- DH's grandparents always made a delicacy of pickled beef tongue and it is talked about with reverance! When I joined the family, I quickly decided this treat was NOT for me
It has been fun over the years to watch as a "new" member of the family gets the initiation treatment (and their reaction). Two years ago, MIL entered assisted living and the word was - no pickled tongue and NO ONE spoke up to say they would carry on this tradition - BUT as "gift" to all who look forward to this treat, my DD (ohMom) surprised everyone at the annual family gathering Christmas Eve day by preparing it .....trust me.....I recognize that this is a true endearment to keep this tradition going!
-certain other foods - that everyone can enjoy - from appetizers to shrimp cocktail on Christmas Eve
-certain stocking stuffer's are a must - coin proof sets - yes- at least one comment of - "wonder what this could be"!
- annual cookie bake with DD (ohMom again - she is our only DD) and my friend (her aunt - my x-SIL from way back!) but it has been a good time together for at least 10 years now - and the recipents of the cookies look forward to it too!
And, younger DGD's birthday is Christmas Day, so her birth started a couple of traditions too - I think I will let ohMom -share those!
May each of you treasure your memories and continue to add to your "simple wealth"
