Day 5- Magic Kingdom Day !!
We got up a little after 7am this morning and were soooo excited it wasn't raining. It was pretty hazy, but dry. We got to the boat dock at 8:45am and I was expecting to have to wait awhile, but there was a boat there and we got right on. There were probably only 30 people on the way over. It was so hazy, you couldn't even see The Lodge or MK until we were at the dock.
There wasn't a line at the checkpoint, the ticket gate or the locker rental. I was really expecting a bigger crowd. We brought our ponchos because we were afraid it might rain again. After checking to see if there were lockers more centrally located, we rented ones at the only place they have them, the front gate area.
We had things circled on the map that all 5 of us wanted to do and decided to tackle them in clockwise fashion...leaving Tomorrowland and Toon Town for last. We went to Haunted Mansion first and there was a 10 minute wait. Cool. Jack loved it and we went on it twice !!
We didn't hit a wait over 20 minutes all morning long except for Splash Mountain.
We got a fast pass for that one for 2 hours later, 2:15-3:15. Worked out great because we got 3 areas of the map done, had lunch and then did Splash Mountain before heading back to the campground to let Finnegan outside and chill out for a bit. It was HOT outside by afternoon...upper 80's, sunny and humid. We were all sticky, yuck !!
But I couldn't complain because all I kept thinking was thank goodness we hadn't planned to go to the park yesterday when it rained all day !!
We headed back the MK about 90 minutes later and reapplied the sunscreen. The lines were longer by then. We had dinner at Crystal Palace with Winnie...the food was good and the kids all posed with the characters for me.
After that we hit a few more rides, including Space Mountain. I had never been on it before and thought it was a blast. Jack was tall enough to ride it and he LOVED it. He also got a kick out of a talking garage can over there. We decided to skip the 9:00 parade in favor of riding more rides. We watched the fireworks (gorgeous) back in Toon Town and then Jack wanted to go to the Haunted Mansion for a third time. Chad and Katie didn't want to go, so we found some great seats in Liberty Square for the parade about 10:40 and they were going to wait there for us while the rest of us went to the mansion. Again, there was no wait at all. We noticed some lightening and rumbles on thunder. Uh-oh.
Jack loved the ride again and went we got out, it was POURING !!
We had left both cell phones in the backpack with Chad, so we had no choice but to get wet and run back to them. They had moved under a shelter and we were stuck there (all of our ponchos were ALL the way in the lockers by the main gate !!) They announced they had to cancel the parade and we decided that it didn't make sense to sit and wait it out. So we just made our way our. We walked right down the middle of Main street in the POURING rain. Most everyone else was huddled in the shops. The girls and I were giggling and having fun with it. I haven't been that sopping wet in years. Our shoes were sloshing and the street was flooded. We were splashing in puddles...I mean honestly- we could NOT have gotten any wetter, lol
There were abandoned wheelchairs and strollers everwhere. After retrieving our ponchos (lol) we headed down to the dock. The line was all the way to the back of the dock. We put our ponchos on just to try to keep warm....it gets cold quickly when you are that wet !! We had to wait almost at hour to get on a boat. I was surprised with all the money they make from us they can't come up with some sort of back up play to get people back here more quickly in severe weather. There were so many cold, sopping wet little kids and even babies. How hard would it be to have a couple of extra boats ??
By the time we got back to the campground it was 12:45 and we were cold, wet and the kids were cranky. Chad took them all up to the comfort station for hot showers and we threw our clothes in the dryers (in fact it is 2:00 and I need to go pick them up). After everyone was warm and cozy we were all happy again.
We had an awesome day.
The sun was out and we got to do everything on our wish list other than the parade. It was disappointing, but nothing to be gained by dwelling on it. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the upper 80's and sunny again. We are going to drive over to Cocoa Beach just to let the kids play at the shore and say they have seen the ocean. I want to be back here mid-afternoon so we can enjoy our last day at the fort. We want to rent a canoe/kayak, go to Mickey's backyard BBQ and go swimming tomorrow evening...the kids love swimming at night.
