Shamrock Shake @ McDonalds

I had one this year, and enjoyed it. I think the milkshakes @ McDonalds are tasty, and like the whip & cherry. :goodvibes

Never had one ... I was wondering what all the hoopla was about. :confused3

You know, because we all thought milkshakes were healthy for us.

You beat me to it!

That's also 14 WW points (more than half most peoples' total daily allotment).

I've never had a shamrock shake, but spontaneously pulled into a McDonalds yesterday to try one out. Their shake machine was borked.

I am not a fan of the Shamrock shake, at all. Blech. More for those of you who like it!

I AM a fan of the regular McD's chocolate shake, hold the whipped cream and cherry. My shake is no place for those two vagrants.

I've been eating a lot healthier lately, but last week I did have my husband swing through the drive thru so I could get a small chocolate shake and small fry. I love their fries dipped in shake. It was such a satisfying snack!

Hey! How about a little focus on the positive here, huh? Almost 30% of the rda for protien for an adult woman, and 430% of of the calcium we need each day? Four times the calcium, without supplements? That's a good thing!

A quick search resulted in this http://www.google.com/search?q=shamrock+shake+recipe&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari page which even included two healthy alternatives. Now, granted, neither of those is actually a milkshake; one uses yogurt as its only dairy product, and the Prevention recipe is all vegetables...
Use alternate versions of the existing ingredients: low-fat, reduced fat, non-fat, slow-churned ice cream; skim milk; ice cubes. Sure, the original is high calorie and higher fat than it needs to be. Your homemade version can be what you want, when you want :teeth:

I used to LOVE the Shamrock Shakes. Not so much anymore. They aren't mixed properly now, and they have streaks of plain white ice cream in them.

I prefer the home-made version now. A good-quality vanilla ice cream, milk, peppermint extract and a little green food coloring. Much closer to the "old" Shamrock Shakes than what McDonald's is selling now.

Am I the only one to suggest peppermint schnapps for the homemade version?

That is good!

Then you and the other naysayers might like the do-it-yourself version. It's vanilla ice cream, lowfat milk, and peppermint extract. And green food coloring if you want.

I made one for my little ones I watch to celebrate St Patricks Day.......... preschool had a party so I did the same. Of course I had to make it my own so I used good vanilla ice cream, milk, peppermint and some chocolate chips. Tossed it into the blender and YUMMO!

Never have had one (and prob never will thx to the nutrition info) but I LOVE McD's egg nog shakes. DH gets one or 2 each holiday season and I have a good chunk of it. YUM!

Last year I was addicted, but not this year. So far, this year, the first one I had was awful. It was mostly vanilla but the top part was mint. I tried mixing it but it didn't work. The 2nd one was too strongly flavored. Haven't had a 3rd ;)

I had some dental work this morning and decided to treat myself to one for lunch afterwards ;) I thought it was great. I like the fact that the mint flavoring is not strong, just a slight hint of it. YUMMY!

To be honest, I don't even remember what the old ones used to taste like, it's been so long since I've been able to track the darn things down. From the two that I've had so far this season, I'd say they taste like the filling of a mint Oreo in milkshake form. :)

I also don't mind the whipped cream and cherry. It reminds me of old fashioned diner style milkshakes. And I like the clear cups, too. It makes it more fun to be able to see the green in all its glory. What's the point of dyeing a milkshake green if it's hidden behind a regular drink cup?

Thanks for the homemade version. Extract is good but if you like your mint a bit stronger (like me), then try oil of peppermint.

I've never had one of the Shamrock Shakes - guess I'll have to give it a try. Now the Chick-Fil-A Peppermint Chocolate Chip Milkshakes, those I love!! Have to get at least one or two every holiday season. :lovestruc

I tried one for the first time a few weeks ago after hearing so much about it the past few years. I rarely eat fast food so we made a special trip for some dessert and it was gross! It tasted like those little valentine hearts with the messages on it. I love mint..but this was nasty!
