for thick, medium-coarse, curly hair. I can't find a shampoo I really love, any suggestions?

BTW, no perm or color.

How do you do your hair?

What don't you like about your hair?

What do you like?

How much do you want to spend?

I need one for dandruff. (Since people are giving recommendations.)

I currently use Head & Shoulders: for dry scalp. But it is turning my hair to brittle straw. :( And I USE an expensive salon treatment, Kerastase, on it, after every time I wash. I tried not using Head & Shoulders, or using it less, and my scalp is so itchy & raw now. :headache: I think half my hair fell out from itching it so much. :(

How do you do your hair? I keep it in an updo or ponytail most of the time. I work at school and don't want to pick up any....ummmmm... passengers. The "L" word makes me itch.

What don't you like about your hair? I love the curls, but wish it was a bit smoother. It also takes forever to dry if I use a blow dryer.

What do you like? It is very healthy and I keep the split ends trimmed, it is easy and I love the curls. LOL I had straight hair in HS, way back when big hair was in. Then after having DS it became curly and of course straight hair was the fashion, so I am perpetually out of style.

How much do you want to spend? I am cheap, but I would splurge a bit for softer, smoother curls.

I've been using Nexxus products for over 20 years, and now they're being sold in stores. I switch between Sleektress and Therappe. Both very nice and smell wonderful.

I have naturally curly hair that is fine, but plentiful. It is oily, unlike most curly hair, so that makes it even more challenging.

My current favorite shampoo and conditioner is by Bain de Terre and it's called All About Curls Camelina Shampoo and conditioner. I also use the styling cream on occasion, but normally just stick to my Potion 9. Then depending on my time I will either air dry or use my hot sock diffuser on my blow dryer.

I LOVE this shampoo/conditioner combo. It doesn't weigh my hair down at all, which most products made for curly hair do since mine isn't dry. But at the same time it's moisturizing and just works wonders. :)

BOTH OF YOU - I don't know if you do or don't but you shouldn't be washing your hair every day. Your curls will be better - your dandruff will be better.

And - both of you - because of curls and dandruff - should be moisturizing your scalp? Are either of you using a leave in conditioner or (what I mentioned in the other thread) Moroccan Oil? You really should. You'll see a huge difference.

Moving on....

Have you tried Matrix Curl Life? That's one of my favorite curly shampoos. Very moisturizing.

Why do you *need* one for Dandruff? I don't think you do. My g/f had terrible dandruff, but her scalp needed more moisture. I'd use a better, moisturizing shampoo/cond.

I love Potion 9. Loooove it. If they ever stop making it, I will cry.

Mousse, Gel, etc - are all things of the past - styling creams all the way.

I probably do was my hair too frequently. It is really hard not to wash it daily, especially if I work out.

I do use SunSilk leave in conditioner - but not as often as I should. LOL

Honestly, it might not even be that I need different shampoo/conditioner, but rather I need to use different, more products. I dunno. I had short hair from the third grade until just a couple of years ago. It was super easy. Just shampoo - no conditioner, didn't need it, blow dry and done. Long and curly is a whole new ballgame for me.

I have very thick. coarse. nasty hair. Everyone says they envy my hair, most days I hate it :lmao:

I use Designline by Regis. Their cashmere line is awesome, smells good too! They also have one called satin that is nice but I really prefer the cashmere. I get it from my salon :thumbsup2

When I use this stuff my hair acts and looks like normal hair

Garnier Fructis here too.

I use the Curls one. And I use the Dryness Reversal stuff in a tube...so Shampoo, Conditioner and then step 3...the tube stuff for 3 minutes.

I don't have really dry hair but with medium length, curly hair I need the extra frizz control.

Then I use Frizz ease serum and them scrunch in a curl booster ( Frizz ease curl spray or Loreal curling mouse)

Sounds like a lot of fuss but I have no time for fussing really so, I just wash and condition, add a few products, scrunch and leave it dry naturally.

I have tried many other more expensive products but for my hair this seems to be the winner.

I use Mixed Chicks. That stuff is great and I really love how my hair looks with it.

I get good results from Redken products.
I recently switched to Wen/Chaz Dean products and have been very pleased!

I have thick, somewhat course, wavy hair.

Redken AllSoft :thumbsup2

I have used Nexxus before, and, for me... leaves a ton of condition/residue... does not rinse clean... WAY to heavy.

I've also tried several others...

Have been using the AllSoft for quite a while now, and love it!
Conditioning, but rinses cleaner and not heavy!

Both the hairdressers that I have been to in the past 2/3 years use the AllSoft on their clients and recommend it.

My hairdresser also recommends the Redken Clear Moisture for something 'lighter' for summer. So, I might try that.

Hmm, I used to use Therappe decades ago, when I had "big" hair from perming my hair. My hair got really dry back then, and the Therappe did work really well. :thumbsup2

No, I do not wash my hair every day, more like every third day.

I do remember you recommended Moroccan Oil to me on the Makeup thread. I went out to get it and the salon was out. Then my stylist gave me the Kerastase treatment instead, and that worked well - for a while, so I forgot about the Moroccan Oil. I'll have to go try it.

My stylist, (one of the best at Vidal Sassoon,) really doesn't want me to use dandruff shampoo every washing. But, I find when I don't the flakes & itchiness come faster, or I feel the existing layer didn't come off. :( I do rub conditioner all the way into the scalp. But, a couple people have mentioned mine is the whitest scalp they've ever seen. :(

I love Potion 9. Loooove it. If they ever stop making it, I will cry.

No gels? I'll have to look into styling creams.

I have always loved my Potion 9, but even more lately. It just works perfectly for my curls! I told my mom the same thing...if they ever discontinue it I don't know what I'll do!! It's a good thing she is a stylist because I would die if I had to pay retail for ANY of my hair products. :lmao:

but I do color the roots. I use Aveda Brilliant Shampoo & Conditioner! They also have a serum you can put on wet and/or dry called elements. It's fantastic.

PamNC

I use All Soft by Redkin and love it!

Yep, that's my favorite, but I have really long, really thick, curly hair and go through it too quickly. My usual choice is Pantene for curly hair.
