i just finished watching today's showing (west coast viewer) about the parents who hired the stripper for their 16 year old's birthday party (attended by-in their words-"about at least 20 other kids under 18" -some as young as 14/15) and only got caught because mom took the photos (of the stripper totaly nude simulating sexual acts with the minors/having physical contact between her "personal parts" and the minors) to photo store for developing (mom is upset that photo store ignored her instructions not to devlop photos in house but to send them anon. to outside developer).

oprah listens to all of their excuses and how their children were "marred" by seeing them taken to jail (rightly in my opinion), "marred" by the fact that none of the area locals will use the dad's buisness anymore...and says "i can't judge you"-says it's societies fault because "everyone" exposes their daughters to sexualy inappropriate behaviour-allowing them to behave in inappropriate ways, allows children to listen to sexualy explicit music/see sexualy explicit videos, therefore it's no wonder young boys and men objectify women. then the "expert" (shrink) says the parents are "victims" as well-that while they did not make the "best choices" it is understandable that mom went against dad's wishes not to hire stripper and when dad found out/stripper appeared at party he "caved" to "peer pressure" (note-the peer pressure was the 14-17 year old boys saying "c'mon let her stay").

as john stossel would say 'GIVE ME A BREAK"! if an adult cannot make judgement on a situation like this i seriously question them.

Gotta agree with you!
I was appalled at her nonchalance about this couple they are NOT the victims here their children, but more importantly the other children who were there, are the victims here!

I swear if that ever happened and MY son was invited to that party at 15- 16 they would be lucky if the cops got there first!

For the record there is no way everyone lets their kids be exposed to this type of thing nor does everyone promote it!
If you didnt see the show, this was WAY more than a stripper, this was a porn show.

I was right there with you, even DH couldn't believe how Oprah was enabling them.
Where was the outrage where was the " YOU WERE WRONG"

Give me a break!!

 What are these people thinking? :confused3 I wouldn't be suprised if other parents sued them for exposing their children to this!

What Oprah does best -- the "we are victims" pity party.

More stupid parents trying to be "cool" instead of being parents (or even adults - good grief!)

OHHHH the pressure of society. Society is made up of individuals -- be one of those with a backbone and stand up to the immorality winked at my way too many. More Hollywood "morals." :sad2:

What ever happened to that Mom who found 2 boys for her 15 (??) y/o daughter and friend to have sex with because "they were old enough, it was time!" and then proceeded to WATCH :crazy2: the 4 of them - in a hotel room she rented???

Disgusting.

That is what crossed my mind about this story? maybe the mom is the sick person and wanted to have the girl come to the party...I mean, she was watching and taking photos? WTH?

I saw most of it, I think they got off too easy. The mother said that she had no regrets over what she did, only that she was caught and how their lives have been affected since the party. They mentioned that she has been suffering from depression due to her father's and sister's deaths, the husband said that the wife has had "a rough couple of years". The husband seemed to grasp and understand the seriousness of the situation, unfortunately the damage is now done. The mother said that she feels that if her children are going to try "something", it's best if it's done in her house and with her knowledge. She just didn't want others to judge them, that they are good people and good parents.

Some parents just want to be seen as cool parents. :confused3

Also, the first young lady that was interviewed... Her story was full of holes.

Yeah it is - lemme find it..... (again, many minutes will pass, although you will not notice... ;) )

AH HA! http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050922/NEWS02/509220335/1023/NEWS07

And an AP quote:
It was time for her 13-year-old child to have sex?

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) _ Westchester's district attorney charged a Long Island mother with aiding the statutory rape of her 13-year-old daughter by providing liquor and a White Plains hotel room -- and saying it was about time her daughter had sex.

District Attorney Jeanine Pirro said a 14-year-old friend of the daughter was also raped. The 41-year-old mother, whose name was not made public to protect her daughter's identity, and two young men who allegedly had sex with the girls were indicted yesterday on charges of second-degree rape and other sex crimes. The mother was also accused of endangering a child's welfare and unlawfully dealing with a child.

The alleged rapes occurred in April, after the woman, her daughter and two of the daughter's friends, ages 13 and 14, came to White Plains from Sayville, Long Island, for two days of shopping.

The girls met the men -- 19-year-old Gilberto Gonzalez, of Pleasantville, and 18-year-old Michael Berger, of White Plains -- at the City Center mall and again in a restaurant and exchanged cell phone numbers.

The district attorney said the mother invited the young men to a nearby hotel room, bought liquor for the teens and allegedly told the men that the girls were 16, which is still under the age of consent.

The case was reported to Suffolk County police when the mother of one of the girls' friends heard about it. The county police then alerted White Plains police.

That is just sick. Those girls in this second story were only 13 and 14 what makes the ready to have sex? I don't get it. That woman should have gotten alot more than she did, I wonder what the other girls parents are doing? They could sue in civil court couldn't they? And I didn't notice if the 2 guys were charged with anything. That is too sad.

I missed Oprah today:( Who was the child star?

Sounds like a Jerry Springer show, or a few of the other sleaze bags out there.

I couldn't believe houw Oprah kept telling those people they were "good people", blah, blah, blah. They actually equated the stripper to a clown or a face painter. I guess no one is accountable for their actions anymore.

Funny thing, I NEVER watch Oprah. Just don't get the chance to see it very much. Today when I turned the TV on...that show was on and they were in the middle of explaining the stripper thing. I thought, what the????

I remembered hearing something about this story months ago, but I guess I had forgotten about it, or maybe thought it was a joke or something.

That's just weird. NO WAY I want to be involved in anything remotely sexual with my boys or their friends.

I had not heard the story of the mother and the two girls. I truly wonder about people. :confused3 Some things are way beyond sick and twisted.

You know...I have been watching Oprah since college in the 80's. I also was watching Dr. Phil.

This season I have stopped watching both. Both of them have stopped caring about the people on their shows and more about ratings and Jerry Springer style TV.

Last season Oprah had a bee in her bonnet.
She has jumped the sharked IMHO.
Dr. Phil's son married an ex Bunny (not that there is anything wrong with that for the girl)...But as far as his "show"...put a knife in it for me, he is done. Something not quite right there.

My thoughts exactly! And I even said them outload to her! ;) People make "judgements" everyday. Suddenly the word judgement has become a bad word. Well, I know the difference between right and wrong, and I'll bravely make a judgement in this case. What these parents did was wrong. They did NOT act like parents should. It's not the media's fault they made this decision- it's THEIR FAULT. PERIOD. The failed to act in the best interest of their child.

Everyone is not going to agree with me, but I don't think it boils down to no one being accountable for their actions. I think the problem lies in the fact that much of today's society doesn't believe in absolutes. They feel that almost everything in life is perfectly acceptable. Whatever you want to do is just fine and dandy! Society, IMO is definitely on a slippery slope and both of these cases (along with thousands more) prove it.
