Shall I take a buggy for my 4 year old?

When we go in April we are taking a lightweight "holiday" buggy for our DD1 1/2 it never occured to me to consider taking one for our (just turning) 4 year old. She hasn't napped in the day since she was 2.
The evenings that we plan to stay late in the parks for fireworks and parades we have made a descision that they are days whereby we spend the morning by the pool and maybe a nap before leaving.
I consider she has good stamina and I have already started taking her on long walks in the afternoon in prep.
If I need to hire a buggy in the parks are they appropriate for a 4year old to sleep in and do they "sell out" or is it something I would be able to do half way through the day if needed?

We have taken buggies for our girls..the last time the eldest was 6...she was very gratefull to rest her legs. We have also hired the double buggies..they are made of hard plastic(and quite big, sitting down they could stretch there legs fully out)..but our kids could sleep on a washing line. the buggies as i can remember had lots of storage bags..quite handy.

See how she goes, if she starts to flag, you should be able to hire one, as they are being returned all the time as people leave, but if you do need to hire one i would only do it once, then go and buy a cheap buggy from one of the big stores, Walmart etc.

Hi,
I agree with Manatee.. see how she goes and if she's flagging hire a buggy. We had a buggy with ours when they were 3, but at 5 they were ok, as long as we didn't over do it too much!!
Good luck, with whatever you decide.

The answer is yes and no, you almost certainly will need a buggy for her, walking around over here can not prepare a 4 year old for the heat and crowds etc. Thing is do you take your own or buy or hire one over there. I plump for hiring one at the parks, rarely do they run out and they have shade and places to put stuff, thats what I would do.

We've bought from Walmart or Publix twice now and paid around £10 for a cheap 'umbrella' pushchair with a sunshade :thumbsup2

Our kids were 18months and 2.5, and then 3 and 4 when we went.

We bought a double-buggy from Toys R Us the second day we arrived for about $120 USD. Great value compared to hiring one. It makes it much easier on everyone. When the kids get tired, in they go. All bags, drinks piled in. Double buggy may suit you with 2 children. This means just one of you pushing, rather than two pushing two buggys all day.

We gave it to a couple on our way home, rather than take it back.

We may do the same again when they are 5 and 6.

Definite yes to a buggy. We took one when we first went when our boys were 4 and 7. Quite often the 7 year old needed a lift - and his baby brother wanted to stretch his legs so they did a swap.

Our boys are very active - but the heat and the excitement means they can't keep going as long as they would in England.

The buggy is also great for dumping stuff on so you don't have to carry it around.

Definately, my son was 8 when we last went & we hired him one75% of the time. We went in August & he used it to get some shade. It would be a lot cheaper to buy one.

We always hire for DD she was 4 last year.
She's good at the walking and when she'd had enough she could climb in and have a nap or just chill out to watch the fire works.
I also took a thin sheet/blanket for her to snuggle up with.
I also agree that buying a cheap buggy at Walmart is a good idea, but we never shop just spend nearly all two weeks in the parks lol ;)

DS had abuggy when he was 4. 2005 when we went DD had a pink one and she was 2 and when we were not with our friends DS who was then 6 would jump in and have a turn.

This year DD will be 41/2 when we go and will be taking the buggy and i am happy to hire a WDW stroller if i feel DS now 8 needs a rest.
we are going in july so lots of crowds and very hot. CANT WAIT:yay: :yay: :woohoo:

Ds will be 4 when we go and we plan to hit walmart or target and get a cheap light weight buggy for him.

We'll be taking our buggy for DD4 in May. Not only can she get in it when she's tired, it also means that if we need to get somewhere fast, she can dive in and we can get places much quicker!

I stupidly dumped ours last year as I thought we wouldn't be back for 2 years and youngest would be too old. Managed to fit a cheapie holiday in October and could do with the buggy. Had planned on the cheapie walmart one as friends bought one last time and left it behind. I found it to be quite small and it had no net or basket on the bottom or back. While in Tesco's today they had a lovely pink fold up umberella stroller with a large net basket on the bottom reduced from £30 to £15. Tried the youngest in it and it is quite roomy ( she is almost 5). She probably doesn't need it but I couldn't live without out it for putting cooler in and change of clothes. Hubby doesn't want to carry everything and I have arthritis so I wouldn't be.
I was really pleased at the size of it even her 2 older sisters could fit in it. Eldest is 9. Told them it was for a friend they didn't know as we haven't told them we are going.!!!

My pink one was a god send last twice we have been and will be again in July, its so bright it stands out a mile form all the other strollers so you never loose it when the CM move them to make more space.:cheer2:

DD loved having hers she was 4 at the time and is asking if we can take it again in Sept, it is a godsend, saves on the broken backs when she is tired. and carry's the bags lol
