Has anyone stayed at the Shades of Green? We are planning on going in October and just looking for opinions.

Thanks

We stayed there in 2000 and loved it!!!!! The rooms are large and clean and you either have a balcony or patio overlooking the golf courses or the pool. We ate at Evergreen's sports bar quite a few times and really enjoyed it. The Garden Gallery restaurant was very good too, they have a buffet every night and I believe you can order off the menu too.
We will be back in Feb and I can't wait to see the renovations!

I've stayed there twice, both times before the addition and rehab. Large rooms, clean, fairly comfortable. I stayed in both bathroom set ups, one the sink was outside the bathroom, the other it was inside. The golf course view is quieter than the pool view.

IMHO more like a low end Hilton or high end Holiday Inn than a WDW deluxe hotel though--it just lacked the Disney "something". The toiletries and other in-room amenities were what you'd expect at a three star hotel.

Certainly a good value for the money though!

I didn't eat at any of the restaurants, although I understand they are very good. :)

Yep! Was just there this past December (12/4-12/10). It was a VERY nice resort. I found all of the staff (from the front desk, to waiters, to operators, to housekeeping) extremely friendly and helpful. The resort was quiet and clean. The buses ran on schedule and were never crowded (nice perk of the buses being exclusive to SOG only!). The rooms were very comfortable and large. Definately a nice place to stay!

Yep can"t go wrong, you will be very surprised at how close and the service this hotel provides. If you haaave stayed at a Dis. hotel you will see what i mean.

We stayed there July of 2004 and going back in May of 05. You can't beat the price and it is a lovely hotel. Not too "disney" like, but awesome espeically if you are into the magic kingdom most of your trip. :cheer2:

We just stayed there for a few nights in February.
Very nice hotel. The room was huge, the view great, and the ammenities were excellent.
Would definitely do it again.

I'll be there thanks to DD :earsgirl: she's AFR.
Sat. 10/29 to Thurs. 11/3.
I hope it's as nice as the website shows.

We stayed there in Feb. and we loved it! We would stay there again if we could. We were guests of someone in the millitary. The rooms are big, staff is friendly, a very nice hotel. As far as the "disney magic" I am not really sure what the "Disney magic" is, I think it is the mickey soap and shampoo because that is the only difference I can tell. If I were you, I would stay at SOG at least once to judge it for yourself. Have a great time at Disney!! :flower:

Glad to hear more positive responses for staying at Shades of Green. We have never stayed there (yet), but have reservations for one week beginning May 5th. Does anyone know how easy (difficult) it is to get from Shades of Green to the Polynesian Resort and hop on the Monorail to the TTC??? :earboy2:

It's no more than a ten minute walk down the drive way to the Poly.

It's the best deal around. On site, deluxe size at a more than reasonable low rate. We've stayed once in '98 with kids and just my DH and I are going back in Nov (kids in college). I'm not sure what the "Disney" magic is either, unless you're talking crowds. I stayed at CBR (when it was new) before SOG and SOG wins hands down. It's a very relaxing place to stay, yet in a great location. And we walked to/from the TTC and Poly several times during our last stay. If you really take your time and stroll it'll take 15 minutes to walk there, if you pick up your pace, maybe 5. I remember reading somewhere that it's like 3/10 mile. It'll get you warmed up for the parks.

We stayed at SOG in January. We loved it. We had 5 in our room, 2 adults and 3 kids. We had plenty of room. We are going back to Disney in June and I am in tears because I can't stay at SOG they are booked. If you ask the bellhop they will call for the "Shady Shuttle" which is a golf cart that will drop you off at the end of the drive in front of the Poly. You can only get this going to the Poly not coming back. The little cafe is great in the morning. We would grab our coffee and a muffin and wait for the bus to come. If you plan on spending alot of time in your room you might want to request one of the older rooms. My kids found it to be quite a walk from the new area to the pools.

People cancel 30 days before their trips for a full refund. So I would start calling in May to see if there are any cancellations if you want to go in June.

Wow, booked in June. I just called yesterday and managed to reserve two rooms for 14-20 June. The clerk did tell me that they had "nothing" on the 20th.

I wish they would hurry up and book up for the last week in July. The website says no availability, but when I call, they still have ADA rooms available.

Sort of OT but has anyone did the "gold leaf" package? I believe that this includes two meals a day and all gratituites. Does anyone know how much this cost or if we could do some other kind of dining plan at SoG? Thank you.

goofy I dont' know how that one works but when I asked about the MYW dining plan SOG told me I coudl'nt use it if I stayed there.

I called SoG back and asked about the Gold Leaf Package. It is also based on rank or category and inlcudes breakfast and dinner at SoG and not anywhere else. It was an additional $100 and change for us if we book it for our 6 night visit and we fall under Category 2. I don't think that's a bad deal at all for people who are on a really tight budget and I might do this for a couple of the nights but not all 6 since we like to eat around the world in different places.
