We stayed at SOG 8/22-9/9 (we ended up staying longer than scheduled because of Hurricane Frances). I thought it was really nice for the price. We had a room in the old section that overlooked the Mickey pool. The room was pretty big (two queen beds and a pull out twin sofa bed). Since we had to spend a few days in the hotel because of the hurricane I was glad the room was big but the rest of our vacation we only slept in the room and were out having fun in the parks the entire day.
The food wasn't great but it was cheaper than dining in a park and we ate breakfast there a few mornings (I think the buffet price was $8.95) and we had dinner there a few times (I think the buffet price was $12.95). They also have a nice restaurant but we would have had to wear "proper attire" and we have two kids and had no desire to dress up for dinner. I don't know what is on the menu in that restaurant or what the prices are. We did eat in a pub type restaurant near the pool for dinner one night and it wasn't very good at all--we didn't eat there again.
The hotel is located near the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian and the location was perfect! We just walked to the Polynesian most days and rode the monorail to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot. If we went anywhere else we drove our rental car. There are buses from the hotel but I heard that the bus that goes to Animal Kingdom, MGM and Blizzard Beach was very time-consuming so we only rode the hotel bus that goes to the TTC. We did ride some Disney buses from the TTC to go to Downtown Disney during the extra days we had after the hurricane because we weren't in a hurry to get anywhere.
If you want a really fancy room, don't go to SOG. The room was nice and clean and the furniture was okay but the bedspreads were pretty worn. The room had a coffee maker and coffee, hairdryer, iron and board, small refrigerator, bar soap, two-in-one shampoo, shower gel and liquid hand soap. There were no extras like lotion, sewing kits, q-tips, cotton balls or robes. We didn't mind though because we only had to pay $70 per night total--no tax, parking or anything else.
The hotel lobby and grounds were really nice (although all the small trees lining the drive to the entrance blew down during the hurricane). We will definitely go back there the next time we visit WDW.
