Can anyone tell me what the deal is with Shades of Green? Is it only open to families in the military, etc. now? I remember I stayed there when it was the Disney Inn and I loved it so much! Do you think it can still be visited even if you can't stay there, just for nostalgia reasons? Thanks guys!

Hi dmc613.
Shades of Green is only open to military (active and retired), reservists, Dept of Defense civilians (like me). Not open to thegeneral public. They are currently closed while they undergo a $50 million renovation, and they are sending their guests to the North Garden Wing at the Contemporary Resort. The military rates are in effect for those rooms so it's a unique opportunity for us to stay in a deluxe resort at reasonable prices.

The new SOG resort should be opened by September 2003, and the drawings I saw showed a lot of lush tropical foilage. Looks like it will be really nice.

When the new SOG reopens, it may be a "closed" resort where you'd have to show an ID card to get in. Here's a number you can call and ask, although they may not yet know what the rules will be for the new lodge. 888-593-2242

Shades of Green *IS* a deluxe resort. The rooms are the largest on the property. I stayed there when it was a Disney deluxe, (Disney Golf Resort & Disney Inn), and a non-Disney deluxe, (SOG).

Though it is nice to stay at *another* deluxe at SOG prices.
