Shades of Green room question??

HI we are going back to WDW in Jan. arriving Jan. 27th and departing Feb. 2nd. We have not stayed at the new Shades. WE stayed there in the mid 90's so we are looking forward to seeing the new place. I want to know if anyone stayed at ground/pool level? I had a choice or ground level poolside for 10 more bucks a night but we figured since we are going in winter that maybe we wouldn't even swim. If we stay in a regular room is it that far to a pool?? We spend most of our time in the parks anyway. Also, should I request a certain room or floor or wing or what? What is the difference in the older part of the hotel vs. the new section? Did they renovate all the rooms? Any imput would be greatly appreciated. This will be our 7th WDW trip. We first went in July 1991. We have stayed in the Comtemp. twice, Carribean Beach, Polynesian, Old Shades, Dixie Landings was where we stayed our first time.

I would love an answer to this too since we are still eligible to stay at SOG and haven't since 1998, but you may get more replies if you post this to the resort board. I've seen some info there about how everything looks post-remodeling.
