Could someone please clarify the number of rooms that can be reserved by an eligibile sponsor at SOG?

From what I can tell from their website, the sponsor can reserve 3 rooms and the sponsor's spouse can reserve an additional 3 rooms. Is this correct?

We are hoping to reserve 5 rooms for a family trip with my Father-ln-Law (retired military).

Your FIL can (and according to rules of the website, should) make his own reservation since he is retired military. He is also allowed the max of 3 rooms. Problem solved.

Edited to add.......Now that I look at the website, it does seem a bit confusing. I previously thought the rule was you can reserve a max of 3 rooms (and that included your own room). Now I read sponsor up to 3 rooms, so does that mean 3 rooms in addition to your room? It also says spouse can sponsor up to 3 rooms if spouse is a registered guest. So, would that mean a married couple on vacation could reserve an additional 6 rooms?

It would seem your FIL's spouse (if he has one) went along, she could also reserve additional rooms if we are reading this new rule correctly.

From the asterik, it says "During the "Hollydays" (Christmas, New Year's) only three rooms per military sponsor are allowed." I guess this means rooms can only be reserved under the name of the military member during those times and the spouse cannot reserve additional rooms? And maybe it means only 3 rooms total...not 3 rooms in addition to the room of the military member?

Sounds like they are having a tough time filling rooms.

So, we were hoping that my FIL and his wife would be able to reserve 5 rooms between them. He is going to call today and find out. I will post what I learn because the rules on the SOG website are not crystal clear!

MY suggestion is to call them and ask, then you can make on line resessies if you want to do it that way. Nice hotel, leaving tonight and staying there for 7 nights before switching to CS. Have a fun trip.

Unless the rules have changed since I worked there (or I'm not remembering right, which is a possibility), the sponsor may have 3 rooms (including his/her own). The only way your MIL would be able to have 3 under her name is if she is/was military, as well. Is any one (dependent) from your BIL's family coming? If his wife were coming, she could have 3 rooms under your BIL's name....

The text on the SOG website reads:
"As an eligible Shades of Green guest, you may sponsor up to three rooms. In addition, a dependent spouse can also sponsor up to three rooms . . ."

Doesn't that sound like you would be able to reserve 6 rooms total?

I am anxious to learn what my FIL finds out when he calls today! Otherwise, we may need to work on my BIL and his wife to convince at least one of them that they need to join us!

Your father in law can reserve three rooms, and his wife if she has a military id can reserve three. At christmas time you can only reserve three total.

I'm staying at SOG and sponsoring my BIL. Your father in law will have to make the reservation and book additional rooms. All rooms will be booked in his name and he will have to pay one-night deposit for each room at the time of booking. Not sure if his wife can actually sponsor guests - even though she is eligible to book her own room because she is not actually the military "sponsor". SOG also has suites that will sleep up to 6 in the smaller suite and up to 8 in the larger suite.

Reservations can be booked up to one year in advance and typically sell out for holidays one year in advance. They also keep a running waiting list and when someone with a reservation cancels - they call the next person on the list. I did this for my BIL's room when they decided to join us for the holidays. I put my name on the waiting list for an additional room a few months ago and was told I was #150 on the waiting list. I was notified about a month ago that the room was available. It will probably be tough to get that many rooms if you are looking to go during a peak holiday season.

If your FIL's wife doesn't currently have a military ID, she should be able to go to the nearest base and get one. Retiree "dependents" (hate that word!), are typically spouses & children under a certain age, are eligible for military benefits like medical, commissary shopping, etc., all of which require an ID.

I'm still not sure how the SOG reservation will go, but your FIL's wife should either have an ID or be able to get one before you go. If they don't live anywhere near a base, they could fly into Tampa and pop into McDill AFB to get an ID before heading to Orlando.

When I booked the additional room for my BIL, I asked reservations if I could put the room in my husband's name to avoid any problems that could occur with a double booking (accidental cancellation, etc.) and the reservation agent told me the room had to be booked under the actual "sponsor." This is typically (by government definition) the primary beneficiary military member, government employee, etc., and not the dependents (sorry - that word again;o) of that member. But, we may have had a comunication misunderstanding while booking. I went ahead and booked the room under my name - I'm the military (retired after 20yrs and lovin' life) sponsor.

It will be so great for all of us to stay together at SOG again! We have been to SOG as a family two times before. The last time was in 1998! This trip the two couples that were footless and fancy free on the last trip will be chasing pre-schoolers around on this trip.

I am looking forward to seeing the new & improved resort.

My husband is retired military, and whenever we have stayed at SOG, I have booked the room in my name. If a dependant has a valid ID you are able to book a room.

Congrats!!! Good for you! I was trying hard to remember when I had to book multiple rooms for guests, but I think most of the ones I did had multiple military/DoD members. Sorry I couldn't remember correctly, but I'm very happy you were able to get what you needed.
