to hold your room - they said it was more trouble when people would cancel and refund their deposit.

The e-mail confirmation I received on Tuesday said CC was required within 2 weeks!

Send your money in. I find it hard to believe that Disney no longer wants their deposit just because SoG is making the reservation. While there's no doubt it is a great deal of trouble in making refunds (and takes longer than normal), knowing how tight Disney is with the money, I just can't believe they up and said, "Nah. We'll just let the guests pay us when they get here."

Be on the safe side. Send the money in. You can't go wrong doing it that way. If you needed have done it, then look at it as you have one night all ready paid for. Now, the remaining nights' stay is not due until arrival, even though the confirmation letters always stated it was. Only the first night's stay for however many rooms you were reserving was due. :)

I made a reservation through SoG earlier this week for a little last minute getaway for next week. I wasn't certain as to exactly which dates I wanted so I asked if he could just put a 24 hour "courtesy hold" on the reservation for me. This is the reply- "I'll just go ahead and make the reservation with no deposit it'll take 7 days or so for WDW to get it, when they do, if there is no deposit on the account they'll just cancel it - or if you want it you will have already paid the deposit." Seemed odd to me, but I said ok, knowing that I was going to be making the decision in 24 hours or less. Well, I guess all is well that ends well. But I would have to agree that the best policy is to go ahead and put the deposit on the reservation - small price for that piece of mind knowing that your reservation is confirmed.

My sister recently made our reservation for next year. She made the reservation by e-mail. She called a few days later to make the first nights payment for our rooms (by credit card) and was told that they no longer require the first nights payment. Thye would just take her credit card number to secure the room. That was a nice surprise.

Right, it's for a room at SoG, not a Disney resort.

I'm sorry. I read your post as SoG/CR and not the reopening of the resort.

As for the poster who made the last minute ressy through SoG for a Disney hotel: when we were making ressys, a credit card was not necessarily needed right that very second. We would tell guests they could wait for the confirmation letter and follow the instructions (some guests preferred to pay via check) however, if they did not receive the letter within a week, to contact us back so we could give them the instructions. If Disney did not get a deposit within 14 days of making the ressy, Disney would cancel, and did many times, the ressy for non-deposit.

If I remember correctly AND IF Disney has not changed their policy, if the ressy was made w/i 30 days of the arrival date, we HAD to get a credit card to hold the ressy (card would not be charged). I think we got them to give us some leniency due to the email, but I think they still needed one within a day or two.

I've heard they (reservations) have hired a number of new people. This means you can expect to be given wrong information and have things done incorrectly more often until these people get some experience. Be careful!!! :)
