Has anyone stayed in one of the Shades of Green family suites? It's my husband, son and me going, and we really prefer to have a seperate bedroom when we travel, for sanity's sake, if we can afford it.

We want to stay at the Ft. Wilderness cabins but the rate is over $300 a night after taxes! Too rich for my blood, especially on a (hopefully) 10 night trip! I thought SOG would be an alternative.

This may be a moot question, because the SOG website is not showing me any option to book a family suite for our dates next May/June, I will have to call them Monday and see if they're really all sold out already, or just not available to book online.

There are very few of the family suites and thye book up fast. They are $250/night, regardless of rank. It would actually be less expensive to book two standard rooms. Depending on your rank that can be as low as $80 per room per night.

I don't think two rooms would work, our son is only 8. Have you ever stayed in one of the suites?

No I haven't. As long as your son is only eight they will give you connecting rooms. Another advantage to two rooms is two bathrooms.

I'll definitely call Monday and ask if they can guarantee connecting rooms. I know Disney won't, unless your party size is too big to sleep in one room together.

Actually, the suites also have two bathrooms. :)

"Family Suites

Shades of Green also offers eleven Family Suite combinations. Five Family Suites sleep up to six guests and six Family Suites sleep up to eight guests. Because the number of Family Suites is very limited, these rooms reserve quickly. If interested in making a reservation for a Family Suite, we suggest you do so as soon as you confirm your vacation dates. Guest amenities in our Family Suites include a separate bedroom with King size bed and full-size bath, living area with two queen size sofa beds and additional full bath, dining table with chairs, coffeemaker, refrigerator, in-room safe, hair dryer, iron and ironing board."

Oops! Sorry for the incorrect info.

GinnyFavers,
They are most likely sold out of that room type. We stayed in a jr Family Suite once before. As someone pointed out, the family suites are the same price for all (There are two booking categories--the jr suite is a little less expensive than the regular suite)

However, if you book two rooms, there is one category (ie category 3 booking poolside rooms)-- that will cost more than the jr suite, but otherwise it would be less to get two rooms. If you are going to call them anyway, ask if they will guarantee connecting rooms. In past visits (in 2 regular rooms) we have asked for connecting rooms before (and did get them), but I can't remember if it was something they would guarantee.

The Jr suite was very spacious with a separate Master BR (and King size bed). The beds in the living room were all fold out. ( DS said the bed he slept in was very comfortable) There was a little dorm sized Fridge, a sink, lots of storage cabinets and a coffee maker. (It reminded me of a wet bar area.) There was no microwave or toaster or anything like that when we stayed (this was about 3 yrs ago). (I was hoping they might add a microwave since that time. )

GinnyFavers,

We booked the family suite for our Jan '08 trip for that exact reason--we like a seperate bedroom to put the kids to sleep, and yet they're too little for their "own" room and I wouldn't sleep well with them next door--even with the connecting door open.

We have never stayed at SOG before, but you can't beat the rate--I will be sure to take lots of pictures and post a review. I had no problem booking it--I think I booked it 7 or 8 months out, but January is very slow. Keep trying, there may be a cancellation.

Also, ask if you qualify for their Operation Enduring Freedom plan (if you or spouse has been deployed)--it is a fantastic savings!

Good luck with planning!

Well depending on when you go (rate change effective 10/1/07) You can get 2 ajoining rooms (depending on rank) for $80-$119 per night, per room and it would still be less than a family suite which is $250-$275 per night.

We always do ajoining rooms. :thumbsup2
