SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

Shades phone/internet/reservation system is in the midst of some sort of upgrade. I am visiting early nest month and trying to make some complicated reservations. I can never get through on the 800 # and have had some success on the front desk number. Online reservations are non existent. I hope they sort this out soon.
This was interesting to know. I have been looking daily at the availability for all months through December. Especially interested in Dec. as I recently booked 12/22-12/26 but 12/27 was sold out. I just kept checking that and others out of curiosity. Just today so many days are showing sold out that haven't been in the past few days...including the rest of Christmas week, Thanksgiving, and July 4. They must have opened something up for reservations or the website updated or something.

What rooms do you prefer to stay in? Always stay in the palm rooms on the lobby level. Just wondering if we're missing out on something better.

We always stay in the rooms #220-#239 or #320-#339. They are in the Magnolia wing all the way in the back of the property. These rooms have the double sinks separated from the toilet/shower. They are the rooms closest to the hot tub with that configuration. We don't park in the garage; we park in the golf clubhouse parking area and enter the building by the spa on the ground floor of that wing. We are happiest being close to the hot tub.

Wow. SOG site has been down for reservations for like a week now. Wondering why it's having so many problems. Seems like a very long time not to be fixed!

Does anyone know if the refrigerators at SOG have a freezer section? Are there microwaves or a coffee machine so we can make our own breakfasts? Hubby might be going TAD in Florida soon, so I'm looking at a last minute, super low budget trip.

Yes, the refrigerators do have small freezer compartments. There are coffee makers in the rooms, but no microwaves. As I recall, there is a small microwave for guest use in the laundry room.

Freezer section won't hold much more than cubes. We removed the divider between the freezer and fridge to have more fridge space. Refrigerator holds 1/2 gallons of milk. No microwave. Coffeemaker using 7g pods - see p123. From mousesavers.com:
Cold “Continental breakfast” items that require minimal preparation are ideal: individual cups of cold cereal, bakery items (pastries, bread, donuts, bagels), juice boxes, whole fruit (apples, oranges, bananas), boxed milk (white or chocolate) that doesn’t require refrigeration, peanut butter and cheese are all good bets. Other items to consider: instant oatmeal, instant cocoa, fruit cups, applesauce cups and hard-boiled eggs. If you want to bring items from home, we recommend using a small (six-pack sized) collapsible cooler, which can easily be packed in your luggage. If you’re flying, remember that you can’t bring any item that the TSA may consider a “gel” or “liquid” in your carry-on bags, so peanut butter, juice or milk boxes, applesauce cups, frozen gel packs, etc. will have to go in your checked bags.

Your coffee maker can be used for more than coffee. You can run it to make hot water for tea, hot chocolate, etc. Some people even get creative and use the hot water they make in their coffee maker for “instant” items such as hot oatmeal.

Really no freezer storage to think of; if you are thinking microwave breakfast or dinner. There is a microwave in the laundry room adjacent to room 241; but if I recall correctly it only cooks on HI (no % power settings), so pretty tricky trying to heat things up without melting the container.

Alrighty everyone... I have a mission for you! LOL

:woohoo: :woohoo: If any of you follow SoG's FB page - you'll see that Evergreens has reopened! :woohoo: :woohoo:

The mission - if you choose to accept it.... Can someone who is going soon find out if they are back to serving a full grill menu... From what I can tell in their Flikr album - it looks to me like they have a full bar again, and a possible full grill - with the ability to serve burgers and fries. Can someone confirm this??? Not having a full grill for years - this has been a deal breaker in the past for my family and I - and it would make staying at SoG a much better experience for us. :lovestruc

Thanks, in advance, to anyone who is willing to take this on! :lovestruc

Great news! :dancer::drinking1

We won't be there until mid July, so I will echo your desire to see the menu. Can't wait!!

Can you have a cake delievered to SoG?

Sorry I don't have an answer, I have only ordered cakes at a Disney resorts, or at Disney restaurants for celebrations. However it does make sense that SOG may be able to provide a cake, I am sure this must be a frequent request. I would give them a call.

Disney Floral and Gifts has a Mickey’s Celebration Cake and they deliver to SoG. Also offers party packages. Maybe contact Disney World Cakes - Cake-Ordering Hotline 407-827-2253. To order custom cakes and creations from Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs beginning May 22, call 407-934-3500. Orders require 72 business hours advance notice. Don't know about deliveries.

What kind of bathrooms are in the other areas in the Magnolia wing?? We usually stay in the Palms building.

Here you go - I actually have this info from my Trip Report... Everything is in one room - with a small wall blocking the toilet. :scratchin It would be awesome if SoG would remodel these bathrooms...

All of the bathrooms from the original Golf Resort addition are configured this way - it wasn't until remodel and additions added to make this resort The Disney Inn, the the bathrooms were given a better configuration. ::yes::

We are going to be here the week after thanksgiving for 2 nights before 5 nights at POR. We are actually doing non park things while at SOG. Checking out the Christmas decorations at the monorail resorts and doing the chip and dale campfire. I was thinking about adding another night so we would have more pool time. I have 2 little boys who would love the splash pad. Any thoughts on if it will be warm enough for that the week after Thanksgiving?

I know FL weather can be unpredictable, but you should be good unless an unusual cold front is passing through. November temps are usually high 70s or low 80s, plus the pools are heated. :sunny:
