Shades of Green and Shut Down

I don't have a reservation at Shades, but I was wondering how they're handling the shut down and refunds. Is it easy? Difficult? Getting a package deal through Disney means you can easily get a refund, or shift your dates if things happen, like the current Covid 19 pandemic. However, with the Shades of Green being military owned, how does that work? Thanks in advance.

I had heard about this when I was reading the reviews on tripadvisor. As much as I'd love to save some money, I'm thinking of doing a regular Disney package instead. At least if something happens I know I can get my money back.

I'm not pleased with SOG. My Mother in law tried to make a reservation back in November for June. Kept on getting emails saying cards declined. (bank issue it turned out). Called SOG and said we can try again but it didn't go through....

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. $164 comes out of bank from SOG. Turns out reservation DID go through and that was their deposit. By this time they had already made a reservation through Disney. Ended up calling SOG and got a refund and resevation cancelled. If it was me calling I would have talked to a manager and told them the issue but she just cancelled.......

The whole experience was so not "disney magic" I even called to ask questions about the resort, etc and it was a bad experience. Never got an email saying reservation went through. Only email was about the decline of the card.

Glad you said this because I want to know this kind of stuff. I was reading the reviews on tripadvisor, which has a 4.5 star rating, but still...there are plenty of stories like this on the reviews as well.

We've had good luck at SOG. I booked rooms for two different trips this coming fall. Ended up cancelling the second trip. I had no problems getting the deposits refunded. We get our tickets through the base instead of SOG.

I see the hotel and tickets as two separate issues. We love the hotel. Have three rooms booked for a family event, but due to the shut down, have to reschedule. For me, I prepaid the rooms and am asking it to roll over to our trip one year later. Because they can’t book that far out, they told me the exact day to call and take care of that. They always email back quick, except for tickets. Tickets have me upset because we bought Salute tickets and they are not refunding, but will roll over next year. I had originally wanted a refund, but since we settled on a date with everyone, we are still going. We’ve stayed here many times and really do love it.

They did it immediately and got back to me super fast. I expect that our July trip most likely won't happen either, so I'm hoping that I have an equally smooth experience rescheduling for next year.

We have Salute tickets that I bought on base, and that's a bigger concern to me. Did I read correctly that someone said they're rolling the expiration date to 2021? That would be ideal for us but I hadn't heard anything about it yet.

We can’t get there due to schedules until 2021 and so I asked for a refund. They said no, but the tickets can roll over when the next Salute ticket is released in October. Worst case, that money can be applied towards a non-Salute ticket. I was really upset in the beginning but am at peace now.

Obviously extending the expiration date would be my first choice, but this option sounds good to me too. I'm happy with exchanging 2020 for 2021 and paying the difference!

That’s exactly how I felt! Unfortunately, we have one in our party that may not be able to go in 2021 but I’ll take what I can get on the rest!

That would be great if possible. I have vouchers purchased from the base ITT office. I already canceled our May trip and had a Nov. trip booked with a military discount. If we can't go in Nov. we would be stuck with vouchers we could not use before Dec.

We love SOG and have stayed there 7 times. We were supposed to be there this past Nov but I broke my ankle and needed surgery so we had to cancel. Refunded quickly. We'd already bought salute tickets and those aren't refundable which we knew. We rescheduled for this Nov and are supposed to be able to apply our tickets to new ones. We'll see if this Nov happens. If not, not sure when we'll go back as we already have several cruises booked for next year, none out of FL. The ticket office is restricted by rules as to what they can do. They don't sell their own tickets. They're just a broker for others. Even the salute tickets are Disney tickets, not SOG or DOD. So, if you want to be upset with anyone, it should be Disney, not SOG.

Did you get a refund on tics? Son bought tics on base for our April trip that was canceled and we reschedule for Oct. If things dont open up we'll need a refund on tics...

We bought 6 day tickets on base. We've used one day. Hoping the October/November trip pans out so we can use the other 5 days. If we can't go this fall I'm not sure what we'll do. Hopefully we can either extend the tickets or add the unused days to a new ticket.

I may not agree with you on this. I called Disney asking for a refund and they said it was SOG’s policy. That was right after the shut down and I’m looking at 1600 in tickets possibly going down the drain. I’m good with the roll over now, but SOG and Disney are each pointing at each other here.
