We are booked for the Shades of Green ... May 30 through June 9th for Star Wars Weekends .......... Yippy !!!!!!!!
Does anyone know when I can make ADR's ... I realize that the Shade of Green is run by the militray but do they get the same resort benifits such as make ADR's 180 days out or Extra Magic Hours.
Thanks for any help ...

Shades of Green is like a disney resort. You can book all your meals 180 days out from your check in date. Purchases can be sent to the hotel. You may participate in the extra magic hours. Main difference - there is no Shades of Green bus at the MK terminal. You have to take the boat or monorail to the TTC to catch the Shades of Green hotel bus. Ofter we just took transportation to the Polynesian and walked over to Shades of Green. Shades does have their own bus to MGM - not very often - you are better off taking the bus for one of the monorail resorts - you will get home faster. You also have free parking in the parks if you prefer to drive your own car. You will love this resort and its great price. If you have a military ID you can purchase park tickets at a reduced price. Also have a store in the hotel with reduced price disney items. One draw back we noticed - they keep the lobby area very COLD. It is not pleasant to sit in there and wait for your party. Great rooms - some of the largest on property.

SoG is great! So spacious, so economical, and all of the resort benefits--except DDP. They do have their own dining plan if I recall correctly.

They have there own dining plan but I would avoid it at all costs! The food is not very good at SOG although the breakfast buffet is a pretty good deal and Mangino's is a nice restaurant. The pizza's and key lime pie at evergreens are really good though for quick service but I wouldnt want too many meals at the resort!

I agree. (about avoiding the food) The only place I would eat here is at Starbucks.

Thanks for the info..
My sister is the one that is active military ... ten years with the airforce.
We have two rooms booked ... one for my family of four and one for her and her husband, but it looks like he will be deployed again before May so we might all just go down to one room and pay for the extra adult in the room. My sister is pretty busy so I am gathering all the information ... I know alot about disney but not the Shades of Green.
Thanks for the heads up about the food ... one of the doctors my sister works with just went there on vacation and was saying that the breakfast was good and cheep so I just assumed that everything food wise would be that way and that we should stay there for all our food needs but perhaps I should rethink that idea.
Any other information would be GREAT !!!!!!!!
Thanks Again

another "perk" that SoG does not enjoy is the DME (airport transfers)...

enjoy the planning, it's part of the fun :)

I stayed at SOG last year. My step-father is retired military. I too was very familiar with WDW and had always stayed on property. Shades is a very nice resort..it just doesn't have good food IMHO. We would buy water and such in the gift shop. It's very reasonably priced and there is no tax. The rooms are large and will easily accommodate 5. We also walked to the Poly to catch the monorail to MK. I had a car so didn't use the buses anywhere. I think you guys are going to love this resort and have a great time. You get to stay at a Deluxe for the price of a Value...so that should start the trip on a nice tone.

Actually, the food is pretty good at the sports bar, Evergreen, but average in the restaurants. A common misconception is that you have to have WDW reservations to make ADRs at 180 days. Anyone can make them 180 days out. A reservation is only necessary if you want to make them from the start of your stay plus 180 days. So if you have a reservation for 10 days you can make ADRs 190 days out (180 + 10). Have fun SoG is great!
