I am thinking to bring DD12 and DD10 to either SF or LA in April, any suggestion on which is the better option?

For kids, no question - Los Angeles. Lot's of things kids would enjoy - movie studio tours, Disneyland, Universal Studios, the beach, star home tours, catch a free television show filming, among another things.

We took DD8 and DD10 to San Francisco in Nov 2009 because DH had a work conference there. They loved it. We stayed at Fisherman's Wharf. We walked down to see the sea lions at Pier 39 several times, ate at Boudin Bakery, biked across the Golden Gate bridge and ferried back to the wharf, rode the cable cars, and one day rented a car to go see the red wood trees at Muir Woods. They also like LA (DH has relatives there), but SF was truly a different sort of fun family vacation for us.

The weather in April in SF is fantastic. One of the better months all year to visit. And, I think a great destination for families, with many of the activities being low cost or free. Fisherman's Wharf, the Exploratorium, the museums in Golden Gate Park, and the bay itself are all great choices for kids and reasonably priced. If you enjoy outdoor activities, there is incredible hiking just across the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County...totally free.

LA is glitzier, but frankly, harder to get around...and activites can be quite spread out.

There are very different from one another...you really need to think about what it is you want to do, and how you like to vacation.

LA

You can go to the beach (Santa Monica) and just play or they have the board walk. You can go to the American Girl store!!!!! SO MUCH FUN!!!!$$$$$

You can go to Universal, Disneyland etc....

Just lots of fun things to do.

Have fun!

Hands down, I would pick LA! While SF is nice, I think there are a lot more fun things for kids to do in LA, like have been mentioned. My kids could have spent an entire day just in Santa Monica. They LOVED it!

I'd say SF but I might be biased since I live about an hour from there. :) SF in April can be really great. I do think it depends tho, on what you guys want to do. Come down to the DL section of the boards (scroll down), there is a section just for California, you can post there and locals will jump in for you. :)

I live 2 and a half hours from San Francisco and despite being so close I still would rather go there than LA. I just love San Francisco...its not all about theme parks etc. You can go to all the cultural districts, fisherman's warf, cruise to alcatraz (a fav of mine) and some awesome museums. The exploratorium is VERY affordable and is very hands on. But there is Cal Academy of science, de young museum, gardens and all this other stuff at Golden Gate park. The cuisine is wonderful usually we chose an ethnic district walked around and chose a restaurant it was so fun. We went to a swiss fondue place once MMMMmm MMmmmm.

Union square is alot of fun and you must try humphry slocombe they have gourmet ice cream such as sweet corn, peanut butter bacon, rosemary and pine nut, proscittuo to name a few exotics (they have normal ones too)

San Francisco. LA is overrated. It's too cold to do the beaches in April. Kids those ages won't get much out of L.A. SF is a beautiful city with a LOT more to see and do.

I live 45 min from LA and I NEVER EVER go there (except to visit my sister who lives by the airport). I hate L.A....

If you want to visit that area, I'd wait until summer 2012. That way, you can add Disneyland to the mix and see the new DCA!

If it's strictly a trip to see the sights, SF wins hands down!
